So, here it finally is:
The thread I am sharing some of my musical work. Since it mostly takes me very long for to finish a track, I won't shoot out my material all out once, rather perhaps weekly, if possible adding track by track and telling you some backstory to it :).

The first track to begin this is:

Space Odyssey

This was my second try to create a track for my band, after the first one was finally finished after almost one year and was received well by the other members. I actually had the idea for that initial bass-line a very long time ago and thought, it might be a cool guitar riff or something. But during a jam session with a friend of mine (we wanted to become creative and make a track that might fit into a video game...) I came across this pretty cool sequence of chords and they just didn't let me down. While my friend and me couldn't get anything longer than 20seconds on that day, I went home and still had those chords in mind. Arriving home, I imeediatly sat on the piano and played them again and suddenly figured out, that they pretty much fit to that guitar riff thing, I had the idea for a long time ago - but as a bass figure. So I ran into my room, popped GuitarPro 5 up (because this was until very recently the program, I did all of my music with) and put those two lines together. I thought, it sounds rather spacy, so I immediatly called it "space odyssey" and haven't changed the title since. Originally this track had 5 tracks, one guitar, two Keys, a bass and a drumline. I worked on it step by step the other day and when my buddy added the drumline, I thought, this might get pretty damn cool. But as the time passed I just didn't come up with good ideas anymore and it became more and more just random ideas put together in no specific order. One day I reached the point, I saw no more hope for this track - it was barely finished, but the structure was aweful, it had no climax and became more and more weak to the end... so I had two options: Either trying to finish the track as it was or just putting it on ice, which would've been a shame, since I thought the beginning was pretty cool...
OR: Deleting all the stuff from the point on where it became worse and begin writing from then on till the track is finished. After thinking about it, I chose the second option and HELL WAS IT WORTH IT!!! I soon found out, it was the right thing I did, so it didn't take long and I had roughly finished the track (still have the old GP file of it somewhere on a backup disc...). If you want to know, at 1'25" begins the part, from where I deleted all the former content and just began again. As you probably hear, I added a second guitar, since my band broke up at that time and I didn't have to focus on how 'playable' it would be.
So so far to the backstory. If you want to know how I did the MP3, I exported the GP5 file as a MIDI and imported it into Cubase and put some VSTis over all those tracks.

It is of course not mastered perfect and the VSTis don't fit THAT good and the guitars sound cheap... but I think it became quite listenable and hope you enjoy it :).

I'm open to any kind of feedback and if you think, the track sucks, then tell me, but your opinion should be founded   .

So, have fun!

I'll try to add one track at least weekly but I'll soon run out of my arsenal, so don't expect too much!

I like it! I don't have much to say other than it reminded me of the good old GBA days playing Metroid Fusion or something of the like.

That Space Odessey track made me imagine a ship traveling past various planets and starts. It went nicely towards the ending where you could imagine the ship dockign at a station or warping out of the star system.

One thing I'll say is that "ping" sound in the background got a bit annoying. I try not to use it unless it fits.

Keep up the good work :D.

Thanks for the feedback :).

First of all, A slightly updated version of Space Odyssey

I'm still at the very first steps in working with Cubase, so updates in these tracks currently occur daily ;).

Untitled Track

I think, I already told about my buddy, I do lots of music with. I'll call FX from now on, since he'll return in almost every backstory...
The backstory to this track is actually pretty short - we just had the idea to create some filmmusic like tune in co-writing. He started the tune and sent it to me, then I edited a bit and created some stuff and sent it to him and so on. It took us about three days to finish this tune. I think, we're pretty content with the result :).
Oh, and please don't blame us for the bad-sounding orchestra sound, we currently only have a cheap orchestra library but hopefully we'll soon get HALion Symphonic Orchestra :D

IMPORTANT!!! READ FIRST!!!
Before you listen and don't give a damn to the backstory, please note that those guitar sliding noises are no way intended to be in this track but I just couldn't get rid of them - tried everything... so please just ignore them, when you listen to the beginning ;)

Since nobody's giving a damn, I shall post stuff more frequently, so nobody will care when I ran out of tunes :D.

Todays tune:

Osiris's Nightmare

Well, the title came up, when the track was very much finished for some time. This was my first work for my then still existing band. Originally planned to have some vocals, it was decided by the rest, that the track is far too complex to have some disturbing lyrics above it, so we would let it be instrumental. The title of the track went through numerous changes, the working title went (due to a running gag from inside the band) from "Deathy Metal" to "Progressivy Metal", until the title it had the longest time "Orientaly Metal" came up and you'll hear, why it is orientaly ;). When I began writing the track I just liked the idea of that guitar rhythm you hear in the beginning, so I let build it up a bit and just wrote there what came in my mind. First it wasn't intended to be oriental at any means, but it just evolved. When I came to 00'54" I suddenly felt the need for a second guitar, since only one guitar was not enough for this track. When I ran out of ideas after the first run, I sent the sample to FX, who put up some  VERY GOOD drumlines on that and when I listened to the updated version I really couldn't believe, even it was a crappy MIDI file, that, what I was listening to was actually a creation of my very own.
So I wrote a few notes about time to time (note the solo at 2'18" - our guitarist was actually able to play it ;) ) and one night I just couldn't stop, so I sat there until 6am in the morning, just to finish this track. It has undergone some changes since then, but it still has the energy it was intended to have. This is definetley something for the more metalheads among us. So be sure to check it out ;).

Currently listening to all of them.

Space Odyssey
Sounds nice. I thought the intro wasn't that great (Didn't really like the bass at the start), but the rest of it made up for that.
It could certainly suit a RTS game, it did give a 'space' feeling but dare I say it also gave a certain medieval feeling, probably because of the guitar and such.

The improved version did sound somewhat better.

Untitled track
Interesting intro, it came over rather mystical.
Again I dare say this gave me a good medieval feeling, though I could see this suiting to a stranded ship as well.

Osiris's Nightmare
Those guitar slides were indeed somewhat annoying, but you already mentioned you tried getting those out.
I really like the name you picked for this, as it actually suits - To me it gave a good Egyptian feeling.

Like your stuff so far. Keep 'em posted.

I don't expect anybody to comment here, but anyway, I think it's time for the next release:

Warning: Orchestra VSTis sound like Ass. The thing in the beginning resembles a harp...
Illusion

This is actually the first song I started to write. It was back when I was 17 (gosh have I been old when I actually started composing...). I had the basic idea for this tune for a long time and since I am a harpist, I always wanted to write a song for the harp. Even you might not recognize it, it's a very sad song :(. This goes a bit private but I won't go into details, so here we go: There was a certain girl at the time (it's always the stupid girls, you know   ) , I was pretty much interested in and I wanted to give her that piece as a present. It was back then a harp solo and titled "to B", an obvious pun, since her first name began with a B. Long story short, my behaviour was like crap back then, so she got another guy and told me that pretty roughly.
One of the first things I did, after she told me was, I took that piece of music, scratched the title and wrote "Illusion" (actually it is supposed to be the german pronounciation of that word, but it means the exact same thing, so pronounce it as you like) beneath it, because all the beautiful things I imagined while writing on this piece were nothing but a crappy illusion. Actually you can kinda hear the depession in the music. Anyway, when I thought about this after the harp lines were finished, I felt the need to add a violin, what I did. And when this one was finished, I suddenly had the idea for a viola.
As you can hear now in this rather "final" or let's say "listenable" version, both the violin and the viola are there. It was written in, as usual guitar pro and FX converted it with some okay-sounding virtual instruments into an MP3 for me. [Hey, but he'll buy Cubase 5 and HALion soon :D.]

So, please enjoy this small piece of music - once I will play this on my very own harp.... (still haven't done it yet x__X... it's actually not that easy, even it sounds so)

First of all:

I suck at creating drumlines myself. So sorry for those rather ****** drumlines in this track today.

Elegy of Time

This track was actually the very first I started to write for my band. All I wanted to try at this moment was to try a 15/8 time signature and see or rather hear, what it sounds like. When I saw the troubles with such a rather complicated time signature, I gave it up and the track stayed untouched somewhere on my HDD.
But about 1 1/2 years later I started to buzz this this beginning (was actually not longer than 10 seconds at the time) more often and got ideas, how to succeed. After I finally kicked myself in the ass and thought, I might reactivate this track, I finished it in a couple of weeks.
The drumlines are 95% my own and the other 5% are written by my drummer, you already know as FX. Those are the ones you hear in the very beginning.
Well, there's not much else to say, except that this track goes through several moods (scared and angry at the beginning, becoming rage to the middle and calm in the end). When I wrote the solo, the only thing I had in mind was, that it had to kick more ass than the solo in Osiris's Nightmare, thus it's a solo of two guitars simultaniously. The bass suck pretty much in this track, since I had some trouble, creating a bass that could reach a lower b.
Anyway, enjoy listening and give me some feedback, plz :).

Nice, custom music tracks are flooding PF and people have lots to listen to now. This deserves a PF comic with the battle of Zet vs Substance!

Hmm, the battle of the electric guitars? DIST Dire Straits is the instrument I use in fruityloops. Since I gave you FruityLoops 8 you can find it under "View -> Plug in pickers -> First plug in on the second row"

Liking your track and it has the Zet feel to it :).

Thanks for the feedback, Ghostly :).

You may wonder, why I post a new "tune" now, well... actually it's not really a tune, it was just me bored this night and playing around with a new Synthesizer module. I still had some patterns lying around. Since all got complicated in the tracks in Cubase (this morning at 5:40 x_X) I went asleep and today, after three hours of sleep, I opened Cubase again and looking, what this patterns tune was doing so far. I decided to finish it later, but this is some kind of a demo version with some cool 8bit in it.
As I said, it's just me playing around with some patterns and a synth, don't expect very much :D.

Oh and, when there's something familiar sounding, it's because I recycled some of those harmonics and even melodies for Space Odyssey, when I had to make something cool in it :D.

Anyway, enjoy and as I said; again: Don't expect very much!!!

Heh, WIP stuff now eh? Playing with plug-ins are fun :p.

Sounds like something a comedy character could use in some game or cartoon; something corny to cause some laughs.

Since I'm having my entry examination on mon-/tuesday and will be away from tomorrow till wednesday.
But I won't let you stay alone without any of my stuff, so here we go: ;)

first of all some updated versions, just if you want to

Osiris's Nightmare
Space Odyssey
Elegy of Time

Now some wip:

A Wor(l)d in Patterns

Yupp, that's the one I was hinting to with the 8bit song :p! Hope I'll finish it, when I'm back...

Something more quiet:

D'Accord
(yupp, french title :p)

And something more heavy:

no title...

Just for all of you, I haven't written this piece, it's written by FX and the guitar is REAL! Everything I did was creating the keylines.
Have fun and enjoy while I'll be away...

Sooooo, long time no see.
Since eSnips won't let me upload this piece, it's hosted at Rapidshare.
It again has no title but it was a quick idea I got, when I was a bit depressed due to my denial.... :\

But at the end of the song, there's hope!
So, maybe you'll want to listen through it...

As I said to you in steam it sounded like a calm character's theme being sad or some kind of Sad (yet comical) Star Wars theme to it.

Translating it - "sad song resound"

It indeed has some kind of sad melody to it. Hearing a lack of those really makes it good. Though, I'm glad your still making music since my musical creativity seemed to hit a brick wall. Keep it up.
