Seems going pretty far to charge for a map and whatever when say Valve have given so much for free.

If it's just a frickin map you're not gonna miss out on a lot if you don't get it... And just cos Valve gives stuff for free doesn't mean other companies are going too far for not following suit. It's not core content, it's supplementary. Valve can give free stuff probably cos they're busy making money from making a sequel to Left 4 Dead milliseconds after the first L4D released.

Anyone who saw the gameplay trailer look me in the eyes and say you didn't get a hard-on, cause baby does that look gorgious!
It's illogical to say that a Mac is better than a PC, because a Mac itself is a PC.

Sean: It's not only a map, but three; weapons, models and vehicles, all from BF2, re-created in FrostBite 2. Also, you get it for free if you pre-order. There's nothing wrong with that.

..Well, the lighting was real nice and so were the details of the gun but the character models looked pretty standard 'good graphics' to me.

Except their animation.

Also, has anyone heard? Call of Duty 8 will, rumour has it, use the same, old (Q3) engine again :D

BF all the way. The first game I'll buy as soon as I get my new PC is going to be BC2.

Indeed, the animations are outstanding. I've just watched it again and the animations are really fluent and realistic. Great job there.

Other than that I think it just looks really good and this is one of those few the only FPS games currently that I look really forward to.

Good graphics is a "standard" these days in the FPS industry. All them Battlefields and Calls of Duties and whatnot...

I think they're hitting the threshold anyway. Plus Crysis has spoiled the consumer base. Suddenly now everyone expects a bare minimum of super pretteh visuals... even I was like that when SCII came out... couldn't help feeling Relic had way better visual fx (relic's pretty much a classic example of super pretteh in visuals for RTS)

Exactly. Relic makes really good looking RTS games. I remember when I first started playing the original Dawn of War and I just had my jaw dropping as I noticed how beautiful it was for the standards back then. Sadly it sure shows though, I can play Starcraft 2 maxed out, 1920x1200 resolution and still record absolutely fine in FRAPS but for DoW 2 I need to lower my resolution to 1280x720 for me to be able to play (Or probably lower my graphical settings, but I refuse to play on lower than high because the game just looks too good on high).

Which does have the plus side of making rendering of videos way easier allowing me to put up the walkthroughs on YouTube faster. But still. :P

Coalition Forces?

Does that mean we're back in the real world now? And the MEC don't exist and never did? I r confused.

Speaking of recording I really neeeeed to find a Fraps substitute. Fraps uses outdated AVI crap which has a filesize limit of around 4 gigs so annoying video segmentation blabla bla and it also cuts your frame rate (as much as by half on most of my games) when recording (and this is due to syncing with the monitor's framerate so a lower res for recording doesn't help)

Well, if you ever do. Please tell me.
I've spent hours on end trying to find a substitute for it with no success. I too would die to get rid of those awful .avi files and more importantly the terrible, terrible FPS loss you have with it. But for now it seems FRAPS really is the only way to go for me. Luckily I can still record most stuff maxed out.

I've so far only Frapped 3 games: UAW, ME2 and C&C 3.

ME2 and C&C 3 run ok-ish, especially C&C 3 because its FPS is already gay and locked at 30 so Fraps doesn't cut its FPS. ME2 goes from 60 to 30. UAW suffers the worst hit, probably due to its lousy optimisation or whatever (it's so far the game that "could" lag the most on my system)

Homeworld 2 was just as beautiful at it's time.

Well the thing that really stood out with Dawn of War 1 was the fact that you saw every freakin' bullet. And there were a lot of bullets.

I just know that pretty much every animation in that game made me go "OH MY GOD THIS IS AWESOME". When I first tried it out I had a friend over and we were just gasping at how awesome the build animations were at the first mission in the campaign.

You see that in most RTS games with guns actually... specifically you see the tracers. It is a cliche in weapon graphics in games. In actual gun use, tracers are usually only employed in special situations like some night firing. In genres like RTS, pretty much every bullet is a tracer so gunfire ends up having a very pewpew look. Mass Effect was especially like this. They even came in assorted colours.

^ not a melta weapon in case u wonderin

Actually tbh if you can see a bullet being fired in an RTS game, the scaling proportions must be really wacked out :P

You just forgot one thing Valdez, in Dawn of War they use bolters, which fire miniature rockets. ;) They always leave a trace.

And I liked how in Crysis 1 your mag would fire tracer rounds every 10 rounds..I think..or it was when your mag was just about empty..can't remember.

That's based on real life. When we did night firing in national service, the first round in our mag would be a tracer, to illuminate our target. Didn't help much though. Our tracers were crap.
