So who's excited about Windows 7? Who plans to buy it? Anyone have any issues with it, or needs help?

I attended a conference for College IT departments in Massachusetts, Most colleges are eager to upgrade to Windows 7, most of us have had solid time with Windows 7 and colleges seem to overly hate Vista for some reason...

I'm actually somewhat excited about it because Windows XP is getting old and Vista never really did it for me. Windows 7 seems like the answer in almost every case I care about, particularly DX11.

I must admit, ive heard only good things about Windows 7 so far, aside from the issues with the EU Commission (which they are currently negotiating - One proposal is to have a choice of 12 web browsers when you install the OS).

I will probably wait until i get a new PC or laptop (which i will need sometime soon), unless i spy a good student discount somewhere ;)

I dunno I get Win7 for free with MSDN AA or I can purchase win7 for 10$ at my college, or use my campus's enterprise license for free :p

EU commission requests are completely outrageous.  Have a choice of installing different browsers? It wasn't enough that they get the choice to not install IE unlike Americans :(. Coupled with including different browsers would cost microsoft licensing fees. EU should install a browser afterward OS install like everyone else in the world. I'd love to leave IE off during install, but American Ultimate and Enterprise version can't, but you can turn it off after install.

Already pre-ordered it, for $30 with my old student ID... I'll be getting it on the 22nd. I'll tell you guys what I think of it then.

I have so much faith in Windows 7, it's ridiculous.

If I didn't have the RC of 7 I'd get it right away. Reformatting is a pain and the RC is great. First day pickup otherwise ;)

Since I've been hearing good things I'll be trying to get Windows 7 so I can upgrade my computer with hardware. Looks like a Christmas buy for me.

I heard bad stuff about Vista so I kept ignoring it and I can't keep sticking to XP forever......I like the futuristic look of windows 7.

I personally haven't really been following Windows 7.  A lot of people have told me they like it, though I haven't really heard any specifics.

When Vista was first coming out, I was extremely skeptical about the reviews. A lot of them were great, but it wasn't a public beta of any kind, so they were only reviewers... people that knew a lot about the OS beforehand and were probably led along certain features by Microsoft reps. I saw Vista as a visual and security update, not a real OS improvement. I think I hit the nail on the head pretty well with that one.

With Win 7, the beta has been huge. I've had a lot of friends use it and love it. It's going to be amazing.

Windows 7 looks pretty much the same as Vista.
It's illogical to say that a Mac is better than a PC, because a Mac itself is a PC.

Quoted for agreement.
I'm not too fond of the fact every copy of W7 sold means more money for Microsoft's xbawx division, however.

Tell me about it!

There was a time when the name "Microsoft Game Studios" sounded like godly manna to the ears of PC gamers, now it's more like sulfuric acid thrown in our eyes.

Heh, I knew there'd be problems as soon as the name "Ensemble Studios" started disappearing from games.

Archon's in his Visual Studio.  All's right with the world.

Well arguably Win7 is sorta like Vista Service Pack 3. What features are you talking about beyond visual and security that make Win7 better than Vista.

http://en.wikipedia....ew_to_Windows_7

Enjoy. I should mention that although Windows 7 takes a lot from Vista, the kernel for it was built nearly from scratch. It's relation to Vista is mostly visual, and let's be honest... if Vista was to be rated on visuals alone, it was pretty nice.

The unified views / library structure in Windows 7 is going to raise a few eyebrows, I think. It's one of those features no one is really talking about, and Microsoft is surprisingly not hyping, but five years down the line I think people will understand it and want to keep it around for future versions of Windows.

Windows 7 has also had a lot more collaboration with nVidia, AMD, ATI, Intel, Dell, HP... just to ensure that driver issues weren't going to be a plague like with Vista.

I'll give you guys a bit of an update on my adventures with Windows 7 on the 22nd or 23rd when I get my new media center PC running with it and hooked up and stuff.
