Community Central: http://www.petroglyp...s.com/community

Community Supporters
What are "Community Supporters"? Well, it's those prominent members in the community that, well, support everyone else! :) Seriously, you guys are the leaders of the community in one form or another. You help Petroglyph drive the direction the community wants to go in. I may be at the helm, but you guys are the sailors.

What will this group have for support from Petroglyph? Official community monthly meetings, for certain cases - access to NDA material (must sign an NDA!), first peeks at new game content and information, and first-hand decision making when it comes to major changes in the community. While everyone in the community has a hand, you guys are the front line troops.

To request being added to this group, please PM me or one of the current moderators with your status in the community, what site/forums you are in charge of, and any other details we would want to have in order to add you. This new group is not completely open to anyone wishing to join. Those submitting a request must meet one or similar of the following:

1) Leader or someone in an official role of a site
2) Producer of regular community content (editorials, newsletters, class site manager, etc.)
3) ??? - Ask us what you do and we'll consider how it fits into the group.

The decision will ultimately be based on the prominence of your role. If approved to join the group, don't forget to request your custom title right away! We want to show other members exactly what you do in the community. So titles like "Petrolution Leader", "EaW Team Leader", "Newsletter Creator", etc., would apply nicely.

Those currently in this group:

- Digz (Petrolution.net Admin)
- Dr. Knickers (EaW Files Assistant)
- Foshjedi2004 (GameSector.net Network Admin)
- Kelathin (Petro Leader)
- Pixelated (Mytheon Sector Admin)
- Sgt. Hicks (Alpha Blue Modding Owner)
- Vimes (MMORTS Gamers Manager)

Please allow a day or so to be added, as we're receiving a lot of requests and are limiting entry. Even if you are not in this group, you are of course free to help wherever and whenever you can! Those in the group are there to help you in their specifics focuses. Thanks for contributing!!

The page looks nice :)
I'd suggest adding descriptions to the links and featured sites. If not on the actual page, then in the mouseover tooltips. This way visitors can see what sites are about, instead of judging them just by the title/logo.

I'll use this post to publicly say that I respect the way you treat your community.    I've seen worse, which is weird, because what's a game without its players?

And the page is live! We added the mouse-over tips you suggested. Any other ideas you guys have for it, let me know. We also updated the Petrocast and Newsletter pages :).

My artist skills are failing me... I need professional help!... don't ask.

What the website needs is a touch-up for logos and other "anchor artwork" related to news and articles mainly.

For example... someone willing to step up to the plate and update these for us in a more common theme?! A prize or two might be possible for their use!:

http://www.petroglyp..._newsletter.jpg

http://www.petroglyp...nitycentral.jpg
http://www.petroglyp...nitycentral.jpg
http://www.petroglyp...nitycentral.jpg

And just about all the images here:
http://www.petroglyp...s.com/community

And any others you see :). Ultimately we want a Petroglyph title and theme that also encompasses a topic such as the newsletters, community news, a particular game, site, etc.

What exactly are you looking for as a result? Have any good examples of 'good' images from say other websites or such?

Good question. I'm not sure, which is partly why I'm seeing if someone else here might have a better idea than I ;). It would surely need to fit the theme of the website of course, and Petroglyph's spirit, as well as be complimentary/consistent between each so they are recognizable, but other than that...

The only thing I can think of is iconography, sort of like what I used for my desktop icons:

Posted Image

Cheapest way to standardise stuff and also keep things compact enough. You can see a similar tactic applied to iPhone apps.

So basically you want a theme for the buttons, right? The community, forum and newsletter buttons? A style that matches the layout of the website and makes the buttons look similar yet different enough like Valdez' iconography example?

Well, more banner sorts, but buttons would be great too. For example, I really want something that can be placed in news posts when announcing our newsletter, see the old one:

http://www.petroglyp..._newsletter.jpg

Ones to announce the newsletter, ones for the games when we announce news, events, etc., ones for Petroglyph itself, ones for you guys when you want to post something from your sites :).

Newsletter, the games, even one for when we newsy something from the forums, would be great.

Another example:

http://everquest2.co...meinfo/overview

Not the best example, but see the three adventure pack icons? Something like that perhaps. That we can attach to news posts and such.

Reminds me of announcments on the main page of a portal web site. Icons indicating what type of announcement it is before reading anything, i.e. administrator posts, community posts, hotfixes...

Maybe a standard squared graphic with two or three-letter abbreviations on them for your buttons.

Edit:

Longleaf should be removed from that group, as he has completely disappeared from Petrolution and we have subsequently replaced him with Digz. He was never the actual owner of Petrolution anyway; that was a rather pretentious title.

By the way, I really like your forum skin. It's very well done :)

Sorry to nag you again, but it would be nice if Banshee could in turn be added to the group. He helps out with Petrolution a lot, so it would only be fair if he also had supporter status here.

Also, I'm still quite amazed at how much Petroglyph seems to care about its community. Big thumbs up.
I'm not particularly involved in the Petroglyph scene myself, but I'll have to wander around the forums a bit in future. If you ever need Petrolution to do you a favour, don't hesitate to ask Digz :P

Petroglyph has nothing to do with C&C anyway. You'd be fine even of you never heard of the franchise.

A lot of them have their roots in C&C; so much so that apparently I keep hearing Mike Legg scream because of C&C.

Archon's in his Visual Studio.  All's right with the world.
