I recently bought Universe at War. I installed the game and it worked fine. But when I try to launch the game, I hear the disc spinning for a few seconds, then it stops, then starts spinning again, after a few more cycles, it asks me to insert my Universe At War disc. So I ejected the disc and put it back in and the same thing happened. I thought the disc might be scratched so I was going to try to burn it to a new disc so I put it in my external DVD drive. Before I was about to attempt burning, I tried to run the game in my external DVD drive and it worked. However, I don't want to keep running the game in an external DVD drive as that would be very inconvenient.

My laptop's DVD drive is a: MATSHITA DVD+-RW UJ-875S D200 on my Dell XPS M1530. It is a slot load DVD drive instead of one with a popout tray like my external dvd drive.

My external DVD drive is a LG HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-2164D.

I don't know the read speeds of either drive. If someone could help me solve the issue with my laptop's DVD drive, I would really appreciate that. Or if there's an OFFICIAL NO-CD patch, then that would be great too. Thanks!

that sounds a bit like what happened to my DVD drive, It had stopped working and it could no longer read and DVD's (but could read CD's still) so we had to get a new external drive for my computer...

Do other DVDs still work in your lappy's drive?

Yeah, most DVD's and CD's still work perfectly fine in my DVD drive. I called Dell and got a replacement DVD drive yesterday. After I got the drive, the game worked. But after a few hours when I tried using the game disc again, the same problem happened again. I wonder if it's a problem with the drive speed or because it's a slot load DVD drive and not one with a tray because my external DVD drive does have a pop out tray.
