Hey, I'm new here, and I'm new to modding, I know mods no longer work(until GFWL gets fixed or something) I was trying to directly mod the game to add Humans ingame, I extracted all of the XML files, but the Human's don't seem to appear in the faction list...

I was laos wanting to have their base prebuilt, any idea's how I would do all of this? I've seen it done in actual mods(before I patched) but I have no idea how to directly mod the game like I used to for Empire At War.

Most of the modding works like Empire at War in terms of editing the XML, though in order to add factions you need to look at the LUA files. I believe we had a thread around here somewhere in which Mike.nl explained how to make them an indpendant faction, but I can't find it...

In the meantime, try looking here. http://www.petroglyp...w-full-faction/

Also as a side note, you can have mods with GFWL, just it won't let you run them online. :(

really? because I noticed each time I loaded up my patched UaW, the game crashed and I had the military mod installed, I was just going to directly mod UaW so I can use it online since I only play with friends.

if I copied and pasted files from the mod and overwrote all the files in data, would they run?

Newer patched stuff done work with older modded stuff. This is especially true for LUAs. You should not have patched to the latest version.

the reason I patched is because I wanted to play online with a friend(if LAN did not require stupid GFWL then I wouldn't have patched) I was only going to play with a couple friends, so, that's why I'm trying to directly mod it, so I can fit mods in past GFWL.

I found the link that tells me how to renable the Humans, but the lua's are so hard to read(if everything wasn't a mix of black and white it would be fine)  i mean some lines have white text with black background while a majority of text has black text with white background, I use Notepad++

Can someone PLEASE help me with this? or tell me WHY this is so eye hurting?(just look at the color's don't you dare say it's because it's not good for beginner's)
just look at how disoreitned EVERYTHING is, can someone please help with this bit? if it was normal color, I wouldn't bother asking, I could do it, but this is near impossible to work with.

I'm using Notepad ++, if I use regular notepad, it becomes gibberish(fd dmrg r{];;j bs md kjsdfjsfk) and I literally mean it.

Is that a LUA file or an XML file you are editing per chance? I believe there is a certain program required to edit LUAs, but I'm not entirely sure...

LUAs are just text, any old text editor should work. If it's gibberish that means its encrypted.

LUA, it's in the GUI section, and how would I go about decrypting it? I found the adding Humans to ,multiplayer, a while ago, but this is a problem, as it's not in normal(as you see, most of it is hard to read because you have some white parts and alot of black parts)

You can't. That's the idea behind encrypting stuff. It's a security measure. Well to be honest here I think it's more of compilation rather than encryption, but the idea is similar: you're not supposed to be able to access them, at least not from PG's standpoint. Why else do you think UAW modding died so fast? The lack of online support plus these LUAs is just too much.

iirc, the LUAs were released, along with a LUA editor, in the mod tools. Initially they were outdated, but I also recall the updated ones being released too. If you do a topic search you should be able to dig up the thread.
GameFront page with various things I have released, where I have mods and map packs available! Click here!
Current uploads: Hierarchy's New Walkers mod, Hierarchy Mini Walkers mod, Modified Units mod, Map Pack 1 (4x maps), Map Pack 2 (3x maps), Map Pack 3 (5x maps), Bizarrio World, Map Pack 4 (4x maps), Global Territories Mod

I tried the so-called updated ones last september. No difference, still gibberish. Mike had no idea either, so we dropped the issue of ever being able to mod LUAs (aside from that 1 special still-editable LUA that let us mod ability icons and stuff).

I've already called it quits with UAW modding. The experience with particle fx design was nice though. If there was one thing PG did well out of the dozens of things they did not, it was the particle editor. Sure it was wonky here and there, but it beats having nothing to work with. More importantly, UAW modding was pretty much my first taste of working with a markup language, which helped with work somewhat when I entered uni and began studying computing.

Of course all that fx editing has also made me a graphics nazi at the end of the day. These days when I judge a game's graphics, I don't just judge, I critique. Wasn't too pleased with Crysis 2's explosions.
