I'm trying to mod existing maps for FOC with the Petroglyph map editor.  I have extracted the files from maps.meg.  I created a second folder called "maps" in the same location and copied all the files there.  I then deleted the maps.meg file and tried modding the maps from the new folder.  The map editor works fine; I can easily edit and save an existing map.  But the problem is, whether it's a skirmish map or GC map, I don't see any of the changes when I play that map.  Surely I'm doing this wrong...so I deleted the FOC folder and pasted in my backup (for when I screw up).  What I found really bizarre was that when I deleted the maps.meg from the backup, all of the maps still worked even when there was no file containing them.  What's going on?!?

Extra info: I just started modding a few days ago...just editing XMLs and basic stuff like that.  I'm on a Windows 7 laptop.  The disc is the EAW Gold Pack.  I'm using z3r0x's mod (I checked in that mod and the maps are not there either)

Somebody PLEASE help!

I might be mistaken, but the maps that come with the game might be hardcoded into it. It has been a long time since I made any maps, but if I remember correctly you need to make a new folder called "CustomMaps" or a variation thereof in the Data folder and put any new or modified maps in there for them to appear.

I'll try to find someone more knowlegable on the matter, sorry if this seems unhelpful. :hope:

It's alright...I only wanted to increase the ground base level in GC.  I easily changed the visible level with planets.xml, but I guess I have no way of adding more build sites.  I have a VERY strong feeling that the maps are on the disc...

IIRC, the maps should be in Data\Art\Maps\

There is only a "Textures" file in Data\Art.  Do I have to download some kind of extractor?

You said you've already extracted the maps.meg to a maps folder, right?  In that case all you should need to do is move your maps folder into the Data\Art folder.

Well, I'm back at it again.  I couldn't figure it out before so I'm trying again.  I extracted the maps from maps.meg and edited them all so that they could all have 8 base structures.  I then put them all in Data\Art\Maps.  Now, when I look at the game, the planets I edited are missing all of the icons on the zoom-in minimap.  Even weirder, when I edited Planets.xml to increase the ground structure cap, the change didn't appear in-game.  I'm really confused...is this happening to everyone or just me?

Hm, I looked and it seems that the custom planets that came with z3r0x's mod are also missing the icons on the ground.  Is there any way I can make them visible?

Editing a space skirmish map removes the shipyard space station if you are using z3r0x.
