Never heard of it before, but TB's video says enough for now:

Hilarity aside, the graphical style and combat looks pretty amazing. Not really a fan of the weird Final Fantasy-like races, but hey. Easily looks like one of the better Hack & Slash style MMOs. Shame he didn't took the time to check out an Archer or Mage. :(

Yeah, I've been following this one for ages. Was thinking of making a thread for it a few months ago.

I really like the art style, and the idea of more skillful combat; however (and I'm only going by word-of-mouth), I've been told that En Masse Entertainment (the Westernisers of TERA) have no control over the product, and are almost completely at the mercy of their Korean overlords. This means that we won't see any new content from them, and the only new stuff we'll get will be from Korea first like Aion - which is a bad idea personally.

And the combat doesn't convince me that melee has a better chance now compared to auto-tabbing casters in other games. It just means that ranged will be doing a lot more dodging to get out of reach, and the huge amount of health that players get will make any minor damage incurred in melee negligible.

Still hoping it would be good though. I'd happily play it if it turns out to be a great game.

TERA's free to play, so I'm definitely going to try it out. Heard a lot of good things already.
Also, I heard that the Asian version is a lot more perverted female-armour wise. xD

Uh....what?

Straight from TERA FAQ:

What about TERA's payment system?

Like other MMORPG titles, TERA will use a monthly subscription model with a retail box. Cost, fee structure, and payment methods are not yet finalized.

Not really. It's just a big row of how the child-looking race (i,e: Elin) wear some very skimpy, almost non-existent clothing. Here it's getting censored because our culture has a fear of possible pedophilic content. Honestly, I don't give a crap. I just want to kill things, not oggle them.

Hmm..........

The MMO looks nice over-all, and this Elin race strikes me as unique....yet......a guilt trip to play with - *points to fox ears and tails*. I checked up on them and they're apparently 200 years old, yet look like little kids. That would suit them when considering asian mythologies on fox or animal spirits.

The part that is bothering me is that they look like kids and that the news is now portraying anybody that looks at little kids is now a pedophile....I wasn't really paying attention, but I did catch something regarding that on the news.

Damn guilt trips! Guess that is one character to avoid? Basically the same feeling about being blamed for crashes with Need For Speed. :(

-----

Edit:

*crickets*

Bloody hell! There is even videos of people videoing the....private parts on the Elin. Way to go......*lost respect for his own human kind*.

Edit#2: Uh............

Maybe I should just shut up now? O_O

Hmmm, I remember hearing about it being "one of the big free to play games that would change the MMO industry."

Guess that's no longer the case then. xD

The only thing that makes the Elin wrong is their idle animations...I mean, come on, moving your hips like that and then claiming they're innocent fairy spirits. >.>

Also, I wouldn't really call them unique, I've seen the 'animal girl' class before, only this time they claim it to be ancient, wise, fairy spirits.

But yeah, Tera looks interesting, but since it's Korean...I...don't trust it just yet. (I've played quite a few Korean MMORPGs so it's not that I don't like them, it's just that they tend to disappoint after..a way too short while)

As an outsider to Anime.. You must understand that a race like that is EXACTLY THE REASON WHY people like me are absolutely disgusted by it. :P

I could not play something like that, or take anyone serious playing something like it... Their clothing... Fact that they look like 5-year-olds and then they have the most out of place animal parts? I mean, if you want to make an animal-like race sure.. I can get behind that, but don't make it look like they slapped on a Halloween costume. Animal parts and the rest being so human-like is far from a realistic image.

Then the animations and the general slutty-ness... No.. Just.. Just no.

The animal parts, like Ghostly mentioned, are part of Asian Mythology. But yeah, the presentation's too slutty which makes it too obviously wrong. Not a, "Your dirty mind makes it wrong" wrong.

There is a difference though. In Asian Mythology is it not portrayed in paintings mostly? At least, the little I have looked into it (Asian Mythology is probably the Mythology I care the least about personally) it didn't look like schoolgirls in animal costumes. When I think of half-man-half-animal creatures I think of say.. Centaur, or Medusa is a good example. Medusa is portrayed differently every time, but - the good ones anyway - have some realistic proportions and make the skin look like it actually belongs there. Like when they have her with a snake upper body, then gradually make the skin shift from reptilian into humanoid. Here it's just... "Child wearing cat ear hat".

Lol, and the quotes I seen make them look like vicious youthful spirits. Not the tree-hugging type, but the more....Higurashi slaying kind.

Ok fiine, maybe not unique for the MMO bit when noting Perfect World, the Japanese MMO I tried to play, and uh...the other MMo you played...Names left me, sorry.. They do look unique for me because I don't really dwell that much into MMO's with animal-ized humanoids, especially Korean MMOs.

Sure, I understand.

---

Hmm......As for the whole human-fox traits (or animal bits) it's to help shape-shift from fox to human form and vice versa. The animal parts are on there only because fox and Japanese Racoons try to copy human form in various Asian mythologies but aren't all that skilled so parts tend to show. If you look at them in a mirror, the shadow, or make them relax their animal parts (tail, ears, fox nose, and etc) will show.

The more experienced fox spirits - those with 9 tails - can control their human form much better without showing any fox ears or tails; it's those lesser ones that have trouble....However, the main-stream Anime bit tends to ignore this, or go past it by cheating with the mythology constantly showing the lesser experienced as the experienced ones. Some do note it, but just barely...

Fox spirits tend to gain 1 tail per 100 years and up to 9 tails; The TERA ones are 200 years apparently.

Let's see here.......this your cup of tea? This is just to compare fox spirits with the Elin kind.....

- http://safebooru.org...=view&id=664582 - More experienced fox spirit.
- http://safebooru.org...=view&id=655221 - 9 tailed fox spirit.
- http://safebooru.org...=view&id=654082 - Or more like Ookami (PS2 game?)
- http://safebooru.org...=view&id=635088 - Evil Yakumo Ran from the Touhou line.

Anyways.... I mean, I'll try the Elin race if I can to see how crazy they are.......*curiosity*

Gist of it, Elin suck so much that their animal parts are showing. trolololol.

But yeah, kinda remembered their description wrong, it said you shouldn't view them as innocent despite their form. >.>;

Game's out for those who ordered the collector's edition now. I'm thoroughly enjoying it despite being disconnected a number of times (not sure if it's my personal network or TERA server connectivity). Only main gripe I've acquired thus far is a lack of accessible display of your gathering levels (I only know my level because it shows up when I level it through gathering). I can also understand that people would generally find the quests lack dynamic pace compared to WoW's facelift, but honestly, I'd rather trudge through TERA's than go back and do WoW's crap for the 1800th time.

Amazed it's running smoothly on my laptop, hail Unreal Engine 3.0! The fluid movements and crisp visuals are well-received on my part, after playing through slow-moving Rift and WoW's long-dated look.

So, I've been having some terrible computer trouble lately: My display driver keeps crashing apparently and black-screening me out of games before throwing me back in. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped me from playing TERA!

At level 11, I got to take my first pegasus ride:

Posted Image

....which culminates in a trip through the Stargate...

At about level 20, I got this suit, which matches the armour you wear in the Prologue prior to starting your character:

And here's me at my current level, 25:

Did my first instance too. I like the weight towards skill over gear in that our first attempt was with only 3/5 people, and just by blocking/dodging the boss attacks and focusing on survival as well as offence can go a long way to winning.

Also, I found the display for gathering levels. Latest minor gripe is you can't auto-dismount for anything (i,e: You unmount THEN activate what you want to do). That and there doesn't appear to be a proper Need Before Greed system, merely a Class Restricted system where only the class(es) in question can roll on the gear.
