So, during the VGA Generals 2 is going to be anounced. Actually going to be developped by Bioware (actually still Victory games and all still under EA's tight rule), a teaser of it has apeared for a VGA commercial, showing a (paladin) tank attacking what apears to be GLA guntrucks.

Now I agree, this isn't by any means confirmed but the looks of it didn't feel like an FPS and very top down. Had a very Generals feel to the tiny barely 2 second clip.

So, with all the failures C&C related in the past, I think I am actually looking forward to Generals 2, namely because I won't have to give a damn about storyline and can just play it for what it is, an RTS game with tanks and airplanes and groundvehicles.

Let's hope it's as much fun as Generals and Generals: Zero Hour were.

BioWare explicitly mentioned it was going to be a new IP though, so unless it is yet another different project they mentioned then, this won't be Generals 2.

Did they say completely new IP, or just new to them? ;)

Maybe something new in the C&C universe or atleast a C&C lookalike RTS.

Because, y'know, birds-eye-view shot in trailers = must be RTS game. :P

Not saying you couldn't be right, though.

'BioWare' making non-RPGs feels wrong though. So. Yeah. Not sure. Unless EA thinks renaming all of their studios 'BioWare' = Profit.

myeah but what i meant was when you look at how it LOOKS it doesn't look like a RPG, at least not in first person sense, nor that you would control a mere person.

Nibblermind, it's been dubbed over the original sounds. It's not part of the teaser :(

Red Alert + Tiberian/um + Generals in one combination. That could be... so odd... I don't see it working unless they kind of make a new universe out of it though. Because lore wise just dropping all those factions in one would just be silly. :P

Probably a leftover of what C&C arena would've been.

So pretty much some MMO shizzle. If so, I will cry.

No, CnC Arena became CnC4. So this will be something new, and hopefully much better.

I think the reservation of the Generals, Red Alert, and Tiberium-related domain names is likely just to get create redirects, as there are some people who think of those names before they think of C&C.

It's probably just a new C&C storyline.  I'm not feeling very hopeful, but I must admit that looking at the current state of RTS gaming (i.e. mostly dead), I think I'll be rather easy to impress as long as it isn't a Dawn of War II clone.

Eh I think my interest in RTS has finally burned out after a decade anyway. I never so much as considered buying SCII and even though I had considered DOWII Retribution I never ended up getting it.

I think it will be an MMORTS, kinda like End of Nations.

Quote

I can't give too many details on the gameplay or design, but if you think about what online has done for RPGs over the years, I think we'll see it happen for RTS games and I want to be on the leading edge for that. It allows you to do everything you would have expected from a boxed game, but it adds a lot more to it... being connected and connected with players, and persistence, the social elements of playing against each other with other friends.

Source on that quote?

With a name like Alliances, I can easily picture that being the case, especially since the studio in question is a subdivision of Bioware.  I wouldn't mind if it was something like that, unless there's a subscription fee, in which case it's an auto-no.

MMORTS adds a lot of potentially interesting stuff to the table.  Then again, it depends on how attached the studio is to Bioware.  I love Bioware's production values, but I don't exactly think much of their capabilities when it comes to implementing interesting and unique gameplay systems (*cough* everything except for the shooting in Mass Effect 2 *cough*).

As for business model, it could be free to play(like EON) or even subscription based(which I don't want).
