Well at least the particle effects look good. I've always liked the explosions and smoke effects in Generals, to the point where I felt even the ones in C&C 3 and RA3 were a step down.

When they talk about story, I hope they're talking about it in terms of an interesting warfare progression instead of the character-based approach that didn't work so well for Supreme Commander 2. Well, CoH and WiC mixed the two approaches pretty well. However, "personalizing the story through better character development" hasn't worked so well in the RTS genre.
Well, the gameplay's what I'm interested in, and the trailer appeared to show that base building is indeed in the game. Apparently it's also a PC exclusive. I'm excited to hear more.

"One of the things we’re most excited about in adding strategy to our portfolio is finding a way to incorporate BioWare’s vision of genuine emotional engagement and quality, including the attention to story and narrative, in a way that is fresh, new, and additive to the genre."
Colonel Burton will end up being a romanceable character, that much is certain...
Still and all, consider me interested - Generals was a decent RTS in its own right (hardly a C&C game though, but EA apparently couldn't care less) and Jon Van Caneghem is involved in the sequel.
Lest I forget:

You know what's freaky, not long ago during my BF3 campaign stint I joked that we needed an RTS on the frostbite 2 engine: http://www.petroglyp...post__p__277506
Sooo ok bioware is making it. Goody I'm hoping for Black Lotus loyalty mission and dialogue options, possibly romance. Hopefully though Lotus won't be purchased from a barracks that looks like it came from ancient china this time...
If they make the resource gathering like the mineral scanning minigame in ME2 though, I quit.
I just hope the final product looks as good as what the trailer promised. FYI let's recall the in-game teaser for C&C 3 during E3:
...the end result wasnt really anything like that. So... yea guys pinch of salt, remember.

I think EA is doing a great job milking out the Frostbite 2 Engine (henceforth refered to as FB2), and I am not being sarcastic. It pretty much forces PC owners to upgrade which will pave the way for more companies to take advantage of the DX 10 and 11 features, because that market will grow larger. No need to cater to mostly DX 9 users anymore.
It will also allow EA to show off how powerful the FB2 engine is, maybe allowing them to license it out to other companies like the Unreal engine.
And since the consoles can not get the best out of FB2, this will eventually force Microsoft and Sony to release a new console, maybe even as soon as late 2012.
all in all, this is probably the best thing that has happened for the gaming industry in quite a while. a huge amount of new rigs that got build for BF 3, now able to run any game on highest settings. This will spur other developers to use these rigs as the new average. make btter engines in turn. in the end, increased quality in gaming is what I predict.
I actually hoped that Crysis 1 and Crysis 2 would do this for gaming industry but because the Cry Engine supports DX 9 still, people don't have to upgrade to play. This is not the case with the FB 2 engine, which needs a minimum of DX 10 to run.

Speaking of market demand this is still an RTS after all, it's not gonna enjoy the same consumer demand as BF3. This, plus Blizzard still releasing SCII stuffs in the future leads me to believe Generals 2 may not be that highly anticipated, pretty sure it won't match SCII in community hype.

The tanks look like Predators, the air units look like redesigned Orcas... those buildings that seem to be a War Factory and Barracks look a bit like Allies in RA2 though.
Not to mention they chose a desolate grey/brown dusty abandoned town desert scene for early screens and videos of the game... just like C&C3.

There's no C&C 3, Sean. There is no Deus Ex Invisible War. There is no Ultima 9. There is no Fallout 3... And as I've mentioned, there is no C&C 3. It does not exist.

Actually, it bears a slight resemblance to Israeli Merkava... Why its tracks are exposed is beyond me, though.
