I've had my eye on RO2 for a while now, in fact long before it was released and Red Orchestra was on sale sometimes but I missed it. Decided to wait for 2 in the end, then wasn't bothered enough to buy it near release.

Now I'm interested though :ninja:

Loved BF1942 and a realistic WWII FPS is something that intrigues me greatly.

Anyone already played it? I have heard some criticisms but that's to be expected with anything and I believe it got a good reception.

Having to replacing overheating MG barrels and stuff sounds quite cool. It also has the P38... the full auto Mauser C96... and the M1895 revolver with suppressor! :D
Seems to be no MG42 for **** knows what reason... oh well, I'd probably rather just the 34 than just the 42 anyway since the 42 always gets all the attention.

I see they added 3 new modes too: one that's more arcadey, and one called Classic that's more like RO1 apparently. I've seen good things said about Classic in some comments somewhere that it was how RO2 should've been originally and it makes the pacing much better.

Gonna buy it in the next hour or so... I'll report back then =O

EDIT: Actually, I forgot about downloading the no doubt many gigs of it first. Dangit, the future isn't yet as futuristic as I'd like :intheshade:

Also important: It's free to play this weekend apparently. D/L is almost 10 gigs.

Update: Got it downloaded. Think I'll give it a try now :ninja:. Feel like using that badass M1895 revolver. Do want silenced revolver.

Played it for 9 hours so far.

Quite liking it. At first it's very overwhelming... there are a lot of controls to learn for various things and I felt like remapping a few things but then felt the defaults were probably best considering how the game plays.

My favourite thing, is probably the option to manually bolt your rifles. That means you need to click again after every shot to bolt it again. I've heard it's slightly faster to do it that way instead of having auto-bolt selected, but it also gives you more control e.g. you might want to wait to bolt until you see if you've shot someone etc. so that's cool and most of all it's just a cool feeling :P.
Another interesting thing is that on scoped rifles you can switch to looking through the iron sights below if you're using it for close range. That's quite cool.

Mostly played Rifleman so far. Might give Machine Gunner or Squad Leader a go today.

Been playing it a lot. Lot of fun sometimes.

I think the best part is playing as Machine Gunner, getting yourself into a nice position where you don't die in 2 seconds and firing towards the enemy picking up a few kills and suppressing the rest as teammates come up behind and start advancing. Really feels quite... "epic" ^_^.

I also unlocked the Mauser C96 for the Machine Gunner. P38 was quite fun but I'll be focusing on the C96 since eventually (after ****ing ages no doubt) you can get it to fire full-auto from a 20 round mag. Not bad for a pistol sidearm to an MG. Starts out with a 10 round mag too which is 2 more than the P38. Couldn't seem to reload it mid-magazine last night though... which is strange since although it uses a stripper clip, so does the Kar98k and that can be reloaded partway through by using single bullets.

Another thing to note is that the game can be VERY buggy. I seriously have gotten 3 blue screens since I bought it on Saturday. Last night my computer restarted as the map was changing. A few crashes and a couple of times I've got sorta stuck in the ground while crouching, flicking between standing and crouched or so it seemed. Ugh. Good when it works though.

One annoyance I have though is that pistols are only used by a few classes. Rifleman, for instance, gets no pistol. At least on most servers... I've heard some let them have pistols but apparently it's more realistic not to. I like pistols... which is why I'll have to stick to MG  . Marksman (i.e. sniper) is also virtually impossible to play outside of Firefight (deathmatch) maps since there's usually a limit of about 1 or 2 of them. Granted, you don't want too many snipers but I can't imagine 1 or 2 more would do much harm when it's so easy to be killed in one hit from someone you can't see miles away using a normal rifle.
