Phoenix RisingPhoenix Rising is a partial conversion for Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption.  Since its foundation in August 2006, it has yielded three major releases, the latest being Version 1.1 in December 2008.  Work is currently underway for a Version 1.2.

Our goal is to provide a unique strategic experience within the Galaxy.  To that end, we have developed an asynchronous tech tree.  Not only will you be tested tactically, you will also be pressed to keep up in the technological race that characterizes war.  From our About page:

Quote

If you had the power to stop tyranny, would you?  Or would you crush those who threaten the peace?  Phoenix Rising brings you to the waning days of the Galactic Republic and gives you that choice.  Help the Galactic Empire to bring order to the galaxy, or aid the Alliance to Restore the Republic in its struggle for freedom.

Command your armies and navies in an accurate and captivating depiction of battle.  Highly technical readouts allow for instantaneous ascertainment of individual unit strengths and weaknesses in eight statistical categories.  Deploy your forces where they are most advantageous to excel in combat.

But to win the war, you must master not only strategy, but technology.  Direct the greatest minds of a generation to propel your war effort forward by researching innovative new designs, or by improving old ones.  The asynchronous tech tree allows you to choose in which areas you would like to specialize without forcing the research of all.

You decide how the galaxy will emerge from the ashes of the Clone Wars.
More to come...

I assume this means he's going to slowly reveal the mod piece by piece.  ;)

Besides, who gave you the right to diss new mods like that simply because he hasnt shown any pictures yet?

 And we wonder why this community is failing......

It looks like this is mainly an xml editing thing. They appear to be resizing, repowering, reclassifying every single Imperial/Rebel ship to make it match SW canon exactly, along with enhancing the strategic aspect of the game. Xml editing doesn't usually have renders or screenshots because it doesn't change the graphics. If you wanna see what they got, their page seems to tell what the new stats and classes will be for each unit in the "units" section.

I decided to delay the release of screenshots because I'm in the process of requesting permission for new models and replacing the defaults.

Besides, if I released the whole website right away, who would come back :p?

An example?

There's a lot of SW XML mods. The bar is set pretty high here.

Not all that much, really.  Most XML mods don't do much in the way of balance.  If this one can really do what it claims, and also have a good, stable balance... well, it'd be fairly unique, at the very least.

I'd like to see the complete removal of laser cannons in favor of turbolasers.

This is not an XML mod.  There will be plenty of new units, but there's no way I'm going to release media of them without the artists' permissions.  And how do you obtain permission for use in a mod that does not publicly exist?  You don't.  So I launched the site first, and asked permission second.

That's not canonical.  I reclassified the entire weapons category on Wookieepedia, so I know what I'm doing.  But if you still would like to see this, I invite you to implement it in your own mod.

I'm just tired of seeing Nebulon Bs shred through fighters, and Venators with laser cannons. I never saw laser cannons in any EU or movie source (except on fighters), just a bunch of turbolasers which occasionally hit fighters.

Lasers and turbolasers operate on basically the same technology, the only difference is turbolasers refine their beams more than lasers, which increases the power at the expense of firing time.  Both weapons come in varying sizes, so essentially, there would be no way of determining the difference between a laser cannon and a turbolaser cannon on appearance alone.

As far as EU sources, take your pick: WEG's d6 RPG, WotC's d20 RPG, X-wing-series games, and NEGVV all have laser cannons on ships larger than fighters.  And those are just the major sources.

That being said, our Nebulon-B does not shred through fighters (neither does the CR90).  Both are pretty generic responses to any threat; they do mediocre against just about anything.  On the other hand, the Lancer-class and DP20 do tear up fighters with their quads, but they can't hit the broad side of a capital ship (no pun intended :D).  However, as ships get larger, they tend to lose their small armaments, making them more vulnerable to attacks from starfighters and other agile crafts.  I hope that clears it up somewhat.
