Oh and if some one wants to take an idea and roll with it, just let me know.
Ideas I am having.
1. A Matrix mod: Lets, for a moment, blow what we've seen all in the movies out of the water. The way I envision this mod is more of a fanfic deal. Rather than just add units we know and love from the movies, we can add to the fiction a bit with some new units, structures and ideas of our own.
So now with renewed freedom, we do crazy things to the Matrix story to make a fun mod with at least two diverse factions, Enforcers of The Matrix, and the Forces of Zion. This will give us to factions that, inherently, will play differently.
The problem with this mod is that it would require quite a bit of work, regardless of if its a Total Conversion or just adding two cool unique factions to the game. But, in the end, we could see agents using features similar to the flow, and just play around with new concepts and ideas. The biggest downside to this idea is that Matrix story fans may shoot down the fact that you really can't have the forces of Zion fighting Agents, since agents are in the matrix. Well, we could justify it, say the agents are cyborgs or whatever we want, or we can just ignore them and say "just enjoy the game!"
My beef with this is, without some serious brainstorming, we won't be seeing a lot of use for the hard point system. Unless of course we did something with the Enforcers of the Matrix where they had a central structure that could use different hardpoint upgrades for unit facility's and what not. This is a mod I personally hope to work on.
My mind got roaring on this subject after i played a Zero Hour mod that featured and easter egg Agent Smith who was able to clone himself. With some tweaking that could have been balanced a bit better, but it was a lot of fun to have instant reinforcements.
2. The Shoguns: This is a smaller mod, but i just had the humorous notion that seeing a balanced shogun samurai army fighting against the UAW factions would be, not only fun, but humorous. This would be difficult to balance, and really it would just be a single faction in a small mod, but if the Ultimate Showdown mod ever comes to light, i could see a Shogun army becoming quite worthwhile in a free for all random tangent.
3. The Mighty Spam Faction: Now, noting how UAW plays out, the closest thing we have to a spam faction is the Novus, who don't 'really' spam like some games factions. Universe at War also lacks any "zerg-like" race. So a fun idea for a one-off faction mod would be any kind of alien bug race. Anything from Tyranids, starship troopers bugs, zerg. Hell, we could mix them all and call it "The Order of the Creepy Bug Aliens."
But now that got my mind going too. Hardpoints, how would we use them in an organic bug spam faction? Easy. For those 40k fans out there, Tyranids have a creature in their buggy little aramda called a Carnifex, a beast of a bug creature, able to take out tanks, regenerate limbs, and be generally scary. But as far as the story goes for these creatures, the Carnifex is really upgradable through little evolutionarily adaptations. So why can't we have giant evil big aliens mutate limbs? Tactical Dynamics in action if balanced right. As for the spam? Well there exists in UAW a template for squads, we could keep numbers visually high and unit count against pop-cap low. Of course, we wouldn't want to break your processor.
Again, a downside to this idea is that it would require alot of modeling and animating of evil bug aliens. As many of you know, its not like making a tank. Personally i don't really see this one happening just because of the time involved in actually making the models and animating them. It would be a lot of fun though. But this subject leads me directly to my next, more manageable idea.
4.Aliens: Now I know there are a number of people who want to see Alien vs Predator mods and have posted on the forums about it. But this idea is more for the Aliens. Just as a one-off faction, again. They would make a good spam faction, and there wouldn't be a whole large ton of units to model, particularly if you don't want to go too deep into Alien lore. At base you'ld want drones, warriors, queens, and a hive. You could make small changes to each of those to get the rest of the units, but still its quite some work.
More work still, and quite possibly impossible, would be to have the alien's actually climb onto walkers and do damage to hard points like that. Not only is that completely overcomplicated, it is probably impossible. But I can't say for sure myself.
