i've heard VERY small things about it, like it's gonna be great, huge battles, you don't control the ships, the AI fights for you in battles or something like that. You just make the big tactical orders.

As far as I know, you can control everything in Supreme Commander, though the battles are so huge, you wont really have time to control each one. I think that's kinda cool and supreme commander sounds to be very realistic.
It's the same makers that made Total Annihilation. I loved that game, destroyed tanks was left on the battlefield! How cool is THAT?
Plus canon shots could miss etc.
