We've all seen TV shows and movies where the internet is depicted as a physical plane.
Tron, .Hack, Code Lyoko, Serial Experiments Lain, The Matrix. and many others.
but as anyone ever attempted to view the internet in this manor?
My idea is called pROJECT uPLOAD. it is a massively multiplayer game that takes you across every site, every server, on the world wide web.
the idea is to create sort of internet browser that instead of creating the page as the standard browser sees it. it will use some sort of code where it sees a string of html or java and it creates a level based on that. lets take this site for an example. the program uses parallel processing to read the entire site, every possible location. then based on the layout it assembles a "layer" or a level of the game. I would see this site as branching hallways. you start in the main "room" (the index) and from that you can access any part of the site.
the game creates monsters based the IP addresses of the last 100 users as well as variables such as time of day, frequency of hits etc. because of the randomness of this it will only effect a monsters skills, elements, and appearance, the strength and HP of a monster is based on the server of the site.
in order to change levels there are two options:
go back. your insertion point from the "grid engine" will remain open to you as long as your alive. the grid engine is where you start. it is a root and contains the "away gate" which lets you transit to any server on the web, its like a search engine and URL bar.
your other option is to go forward. find a link to another site in the one your on. but you never know what you'll find on the other side.

For those who are more visual and like playing games this sure would be sweet. A site having more then one way to view them something that reminds me of what home is doing for its gaming community. Just hop into the developers space and just walk around viewing demos and such. If it had a nice twist to it sure and if it had RPG Level elements like you said yup.
