Abnormal game exit UPDATE: Resolved, fix will be in next patch!

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, installed the latest version of "Games for Windows - live".
Set up the game like before and tried playing the tutorial without installing the day1 patch. Had no problems.
Installed the day1 patch (manually), started the game again and tried playing the turorial. Had no problems. Looks like the problem on my computer was with "Games for Windows - Live".
Problem is that I only play Single Player so if not Sok4R had told about updating "Games for Windows - Live" I would never have found this solution as "Games for Windows - Live" is supposed to autoupdate when you want to play online.
The latest version of "Games for Windows - Live" can be downloaded here:

Did you all know the "all mighty microsoft" tested this game too and "ok'd" it for release?
I doubt any of you are boycotting them are you? In fact chances are you will STILL support their products, a little one sided I'd say. But it's easier to complain/boycott to the people who found, fixed and are planning on releasing a patch that fixes the problem after it was found. Too bad they're waiting on microsoft and Sega to get it released.
They've apologized, planed to and DID fix it, and the patch is being certified for release...? what are you getting at... that you speak before you think?
By the way Petroglyph You should really point SEGA and Microsoft to this page to show them how they're delaying the patch is making you LOSE customers regardless of how hard you try to get things working right M$ and SEGA are holding you back and hurting your reputation...
For your information this is typing, not speaking. I looked back and I see no apology and my game is not fixed.
It has been a month since I purchased the game. The people that found the problem are us poor suckers that puchased the lemons. Leaving a post on a message board that the problem is fixed and will be in the next patch is one the farthest things from customer service that I have ever seen. That post was there when I bought the game a month ago. I have not seen any other official communication. No updates, nothing. If it was going to take this long, the product should have been pulled of off shelves and they should be apoligizing to customers by using an official method of communication. The statement is an empy promise.
I buy a product, I expect the product to work. Is that too much to ask for?
The problem is fixed when we customers can play the game error free. Not when some statement is made on the authority for misinformation that is called the internet. You can keep on going through life believing everything you read on message boards.
I have had problems with Microsoft products before and they have fixed or replaced the products. It is something called customer service. Every product will have some defects. A company can define itself by how it handles those defects. This company keeps on dropping the ball every day that this problem continues.
I never thought buying games would be risky.

Sorry M8, But I tried your "Fix" and also downloaded the latest Games for Windoze live...
No Bananas.
I still get Abnormal Game Chuckouts. Its a game bug and they say they fixed it. (Alledgedly..) Personally I think someone needs to remove their finger from something round and warm.
This rig of mine plays every game mega fast from Crysis to COD4 to HL2 Doom Eve online ec etc etc ad nauseum...
I have the latest drivers the greatest hardware the fastest memory the fastest affordable raid setup and a great sound setup.. I have defragged, scanned and cleaned the system, I dont use stuff that clogs up my processes queue.
My rig runs anything that any guy in here can chuck at it, and it runs P95 etc flat out stable as a rock for days.
THE FAULT ISNT IN PEOPLES RIGS.
All I do is play games online and in single player. I have literally twenty five major release games on this baby,
Theres nothing they can blame on my rig. Its a gamers machine and I personally have been using PC's since 1974... Lol teach me something new.
I await the mysterious never appearing patch like everyone else. The Fanboys in here are happy to abuse anyone that shows they are a little upset with this product, and give you grief for complaining.
It'd be nice if they said hey it'll be a week or a month or something. But were not going to get it because we are the mushrooms.
Kept in the dark and fed on Sh*t.
My advice? - Ignore the Fanboys hysterical catterwalling and keep on griefing in here.
Might light a firecracker under their ass.
Good luck getting it to run meanwhile until the magic patch that is coming at the mysterious date I'm playing Eve Online and other stuff.

Just think for a moment why everyone's having these problems with their computers: They weren't built with Microsoft LIVE and they have varying software/hardware configurations. PC games have to deal with this and be able to run on thousands of different models and configurations, and have settings for different resolutions and graphics card settings. This of course causes some instability or bugs if the coding for all of these configurations is not 100% correct.
In a company like Microsoft, with so many employees working on so many different parts of a system, you don't have time to go back and check everyone's piece of the product. You have to put it together and find the bugs you can, but you'll never get all of them. Public Beta tests catch a lot of them since it opens up a whole new realm of PC configurations to test, but you'll never test them all. My PC's different from your PC, and this holds true for nearly everyone if only because of software differences which can also affect game performance.
Compare this to consoles: They're built from the ground up to run ONE specialized and stripped-down operating system. The games written for them only have to account for ONE hardware configuration since all of the consoles are the same. The drivers are uniforms since LIVE requires a driver update when its released or you can't get online. Thus, only a few small tests are needed to check for bugs, which can easily be removed before release. This is why console games have fewer bugs than their PC counterparts, and they're also easier to fix since the consoles are uniform.
Halo 3 and Bioware RPG's like KotOR and Mass Effect work well based on this very principle; KotOR had no issues running on my Xbox but on my PC I got killer lag everytime I stepped on Dantooine due to an issue with my ATI Graphics card, which they released a patch for. Thus, console games are in fact MORE stable than PC ones, pretty much across the board.

Well said!!
It's never been about the fix, the time limit on the fix, or what companies are in charge of the fix.
At least not for me.
It's been about why all these problems persist and Petroglyph hasn't responded to the complaints.
I, also, sell products to people. When they're dissatisfied I address those problems.
I have no issue with the game being broken, or very little issue. I have a BIG issue with the problem not being addressed...I have an issue with this company accepting that I BOUGHT their game (i.e. I didn't download it, though I expect I could have, and had more value had I done that!) and knowing this they haven't said JACK SQUAT about this problem for a month.
My computer recently blew up, so I bought a new one. This new computer has a quad-core processor and a high end graphics card. It is really big and has fancy lights that I can control. I spent a lot of money on this big, bright computer. I also spent a fair amount of time deciding on it. I spent a fair amount of time, as well, deciding what game I would play on it.
I'm enjoying Supreme Commander. Universe At War is sitting on my shelf. Because it doesn't work. On my fancy new and bright and beautiful computer.

Ok, you are pretty rude, has a bad mouth and is a bad example for the other forumers here. You are also sounding like someone who suffers from or is at risk at suffering from high blood pressure and stomach ulcher. Besides that you don't sound like someone who has used computers sinse 1974, but more like some teenage brat who's got pissed because a game doesn't work on his expensive computer.

I would really appreciate if you could post at least a vague timeline for your upcoming patch(es). GFWLive games seem to suffer from various "child illnesses" or simply aren't tested properly before release. Can you tell us when we can expect the next patch or not? If it's stuck in the M$-approval-queue (hopefully not the same where the Gears Of War patch is in?) please give us at least a hint when it might get released.
Every half-intellegent customer who can't play UAW properly due to poor release quality and missing patches is one potential non-customer for UAW2. You should be aware of that. Recently some vendors suffocated* in the vacuum called Microsoft customer-care...
*Fasa Studios (Shadowrun), Bungie (Halo 2), ...

Can tell by your atrocious spelling and crap syntax that your base language is NOT english for that I forgive you what may have been lost in translation.
If you had bothered to read my post before letting your mouth rattle off like an ouzi s.m.g. you would have seen that in no way was my mail aimed at You, or the likes of you, (Thats people who tried to help...) but it WAS aimed at the few hardcore posters in here who are defending PG's stance at keeping us out of the loop visavis patch release date and how they fixed it..
Further to your information, sonny I KNOW I'm far older than you... Hence can get crabby whenever the feck I like.
Oh yeah, and I DIDNT ask for help.

are you serious?
yup they sure didn't say anything or address it at all.
what loop? You know what they know. They fixed it, the patch is with SEGA, when they're done it goes to M$ to be verified again... How can they give a release date for something they don't have any control over?
=======================================================Snip!!
See what I mean? I guess you must be all defensive over PG because your in the credit roll? You must be credited with over 2k in posts... "Forum whore.." FanBoys always believe theyre better than those who dont post as much, it's a kind of self imposed authority they beleive they and no doubt, You, think you have over others...
You cannot possibly deny that people have waited over a month for this fix. You cannot deny that someone in PG wouldnt be screaming "Breach of Contract" to both Sega and Microsoft if PG was bothered about us for real.
I mean, think about it, dont they have a phone? That's just too simple for the great super friendly, protective, mother healing, earth loving, customer care conscious, PG to think of aint it? Imagine:
The call would go something like this: " Hello SEGA? - PG here, listen be a good feller and get that patch tested eh? we got them climbing the walls here.." (SEGA) "Sure thing! I'll start on it this afternoon for you..." now I know it's NEVER going to be that easy, and especially with Microflopped..
but a MONTH? OVER a MONTH? LOL!!!!! You are too blind to see there is just NO DEFENCE!!
Maybe the patch will arrive soon a day or so? - Oh no guess not. Get in the queue, wait in line, we got plenty of people that were already ignoring.
Instead, (As I predicted most accurately...) It's easier to roll in the Fanboy club, those mega posters who wont believe ANYTHING bad can come from PG (And all the other companies that have their almost religiously fanatical followers..) (Yawn!!) and accuse people of being "Impatient.." even after over a whole MONTH of excuses. (I read 11 days somewhere didnt I?) Lol!
If that month makes ANYONE impatient I sure wouldnt like to be in a queue in your neck of the woods. because it sounds like you are used to eating at a Soviet Macdonalds.
I read many of the posts in these forums and read much stuff about the upcoming (But very mysterious..) patch.. I tried many of the fixes that are posted around and checked and rechecked my configurations and my Rig. I'm happy its not my fault as you guys are fond of vaguely alluring to in your defensive posts.
Now PG may have won your loyalty, they may have your heart already that much is glaringly obvious you are converted. But in here, we are worried about us see? We dont need to be chastised for having a righteous say about how we feel we are being treat.
Badly in OUR eyes.
Leave us alone until you can post something useful or suggest a fix we can try.. Your dialogue is pestering us.

Yeah I read that 2 days ago...
and tried it within an hour... and despite the hint about it probably not being read.. (Crossed out..!)
It was, but.. It didnt work.. Abnormal game exits with either version.
Thanks though.
I also renewed the Microsoft Games for windows to the latest 1.2 and took out that awfully nasty AMD CPU update (I'm running a Pentium..) and edited the boot.ini to remove the Usepmtimer/ crap that is installed along with it.
Even AMD users shouldnt have this installed in my humble opinion. PG just went ahead and left it there... I mean who are they? CCP? BTW CCP did something similar with EVE online and had it fixed in less than a day. Posted everywhere and FIXED. That takes decisiveness and courage, they didnt bury their heads in the sand..
Anything else?
Apart from regular visits from Fanboys coming here trying to blame or insinuate stuff onto us guys. no. nothing else, just Try blaming PG.
We do.
Go annoy other peaceable folks.

And as the official fix just keeps delaying itself, this whole experience has left a bad taste. Even if we get the patch tomorrow, I won't be buying any products from petroglyph ever again.

I have to agree. I personally will never buy a petroglyph game again either. There are too many other quality software developers out there. I hate to hurt anyone's feelings but Petroglyph you are just not up to snuff... you need better talent or better quality or control or both.
Bottom line: your work doesn't cut it in an industry that is way to competitive for this sort of failure.

I would have liked to make my introduction with better news to report, but I do want to update you all and give you a chance to vent directly to the source.
The good news is we've worked with Petroglyph to be very thorough, and are confident that the upcoming patch will solve most of the problems folks have been reporting.
The bad news is we're still vetting a small remaining connectivity issue that would affect some users, and when considering that, along with the remaining work we have to do to prep this for distribution, it may yet be a few weeks before you'll get your hands on it. I understand that this will upset some folks who have saved up their allowance for a game they can't play yet, and to each of you we apologize. If there were any way to do this more quickly, we would!
It bears mentioning, however, that a significant portion of you should be able to solve your issues without the patch.
Please check this entry in the Sega KnowledgeBase and verify that you've worked through the troubleshooting steps: http://sega-us.custh...hp?p_faqid=1101
If you need personal help, or if you just want to vent a bit, please begin a support ticket there, or PM me with all your hate mail.
Just do me a favor and be civil to one another!
EDIT (2/13): Also, I do not mean to disregard the mass of knowledge and helpful folks here in the Petroglyph forums. A sincere thanks from SEGA to all who have been sharing knowledge and solutions.
