Pstt, Foshjedi:

It should also be noted that Krieg raises an unusually large number of regiments for so devastated a planet. This is because of the use of cloning technology, which Krieg has been granted special dispensation to use due to the steely and determined nature of its troops and its unswerving loyalty to the Emperor. Use of this technology is generally prohibited throughout the Imperium (reasons unknown) by the Adeptus Mechanicus, the custodians of the Imperium's technological lore. This may be why Death Korp troops are so rarely seen without their characteristic gas masks.

And I've never heard of them being deployed in anything less than a "siege army".

And that said....

SEND IN THE CLONES! :D :p

If they are, and we're playing, I'm going Comissar on you to keep you from bogarting the Baneblade.

I plan on going Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplin, I will make the Fallen repent.

Jeff Brown; Ronald Reagan; George Orwell said:

As video games continue to take audiences away from television, we expect to see more TV news stories warning parents about the corrupting influence of interactive entertainment. But this represents a new level of recklessness. Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem. People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Lo there do I see my father
Lo there do I see my mother
my sisters and my brothers

Lo there do I see the line of
my people back to the beginning

Lo they do call to me
They bid me take my place among
them in the halls of Vallhalla
Where the brave may live forever

So, in this, do they have the Necrons available? They are the faction I'm most interested in of the Warhammer universe, and I might get this if there is a trial and it's good.

I'm not entirely sure how you'd actually play as a Necron. Seems rather... well... static.

Certainly, if you could "upgrade" yourself, go from a simple Necron Warrior to one of the other necron based chassies (destroyer, wraith, pariah, etc.) I could see Necrons being a viable player group...

I highly doubt anyone will be able to play as either Tyranids or Necrons, since that would pretty much ruin the whole point of the MMO in regards to those particular races.

In fact, I highly doubt anyone will be able to play as anyone in any sort of military structure, for the same reasons. Unless they try and base the MMO on finding a way around that those problems.

That's there the Inquisitor mechanic comes in.... or even the Rogue Trader....

Basically, if done properly you can get an Imperial Guardsman, and Adeptus Mechanicus Adept, a Savant, and even an Assassin (for an Inquisitor's retinue). It depends on how they team wants to portray the game concept.

I envision a couple of things that will make a WH40K game difficult to make:

1) You won't be aligned to any faction from the start, I'm almost certain of it. Might as well stop exasperating over how much you love/want Death Korps, because in all likelihood it will be one of the two things:
(i) The faction will be chosen for you, and you will fight underneath that banner unless you roleplay as something else or create the equivalent of a guild in the replicated image of that faction(e.g: Cadia).
(ii) Your decision of alignment may emerge from faction-based affairs. Want to become this particular division? Go to *this place* and train for it (Rep-like).

2) The case of grinding and loot. Loot aside from bragging trinkets isn't particularly something that has competent standing in the 40K universe. Sure it works for Warhammer, but items are very specific, if not too specific to be universal. A Space Marine isn't going to suddenly get a Daemon weapon all to himself, or an Ork Power Claw. The structure is rigid, and the case of individuality is minimal enough that it just doesn't seem like it would be right. Characters don't go off and kill a pack of non-domesticated beasts that somehow manage to drop highly-technological equipment.

Unless of course you just make it a no-holds-barred MMO and say to hell with the lore...

Well, for your second point I say look at Necromunda as an example of how to do grind. Sure, a Space Marine won't be toddling around looking for x amount of Catachan Devil spincters, but a Space Marine Scout, looking to earn favor enough with the Tech Marine in charge of the armory to get a new scope for his rifle might be willing to do it.

I suspect you're over thinking a bit though... it's not so much the body part as it is the trophey. Ork heads, skulls of your foes, small fragments of armor.... those show your prowess in the field and should result in new pieces of gear not commonly available to your peers (say you're a Marine. By collecting, say, ten tyranid warrior heads, you should be able to get a Combi-bolter).

I've always thought WH40K Space Marines looked awesome...

What I mean is the format of the game wouldn't work adequately for some of the races. The prospect of grinding for loot sounds relatively outlandish to me when it comes to playing for example, a Tactical Space Marine: They're a uniformed chapter that wouldn't resort to such ridiculous methods. Now Scouts and Initiates I can understand, they're not really as firmly embedded within the chapter and so many of the rules don't apply to them. But with the more well-endowed members of the Chapter, I see them as having to either submit loot found ifor research in exchange for rewards, or having to purge it and receive later commendation.

Well if you choose Chaos I bet you would slowly decide which god to worship and then get special bonus' for worshipping Khorne, Slaneesh, T'zeentch, Nurgle or Undivided.

Start off as a normal marine and slowly level up until you become a Daemon Prince

That's just it...when you become a full Battle Brother, what gets you the neat stuff is glory. So instead of grinding for spincters, you're grinding for trophies which exault your martial prowess. So let's say you're trying to get a power sword as an upgrade to your chain sword, but you need a certain level of glory. You go out, hit a tyranid infested planet, take a bunch of tyranid warrior heads or even a large synaptic creature, go back and turn in proof of your skills.... cha-ching, reward.

Bah, perhaps it's just me, but I think converting 40K over into the existing MMO model wouldn't do it any sense of justice. Maybe it's because a couple of the races will have to be stupified in order to serve as game for the MMO players, or the way the modern MMO-ers play games is going to dictate how it is played, but I don't see it ending too well. I'll be looking out for innovation on their part thqt would persuade me otherwise. It doesn't even matter if your franchise is virtually made for MMOS if you can't express that in the mechanics (i,e: The Matrix Online).
