Renegade Marine chapters are really few and far between.

I believe the Marines Errant may be one of them... otherwise, you're gonna end up in the Eye o' Terror and need that bolt round through the head anyway.

Although the majority of the renegade chapters are chaos marines and turned to chaos, not all have done so and are merely renegade out of difference of believes (For example not believing in the god emperor) or heretical acts (joining forces with another faction or such). And that I find very interesting. I'd love to have a chapter that is renegade but human and gains their support from say... Eldar or Tau forces. (I mean, both of them could easily help Space Marines if their goals are the same, Space Marines are mostly the ones that 'deny' them for being xenos after all).

There are a few, of the top of my head:

Of course the Soul Drinkers. I suggest looking them up. Great example. Their ideology is based around the idea that the Imperium has betrayed everything the Emperor stood for - to which I would really agree from a lore standpoint - You know what... look here: http://wh40k.lexican...i/Soul_Drinkers I read this a long time ago when I looked into Warhammer 40.000 Lore. I think this is really interesting myself.

Relictors, became a renegade for the use of chaos weaponry (Not being actual chaos). They believe in trying to use the dark weaponry against itself.

Apocalypse Company (Doubtful I believe, either regular Renegade or Chaos)

And others. Although they are in few, yes, I find them more interesting than most Space Marine and Chaos Marine chapters. So... Soul Drinker Techmarine please?

Unfortunately, that Xenos thing really does mean a lot.

Know what happens to human helpers of the Tau when they're captured, if they are?

Now, picture a Space Marine going rouge enough to join the xenos. Vivisection would probably be the least of their problems. Heck knows what happens to the Fallen when those delightfully cheerful Dark Angels and their children chapters get their hands on them...

And it's believed that those handfull of remaining Soul Drinkers are currently under lock and key of the Imperial Fists... Heck, I don't think they even HAVE Techmarines left.

I'm well aware of their sad fates, yes. I merely said that I'd be interested in playing as one of them. A Human, but not part of the Imperium (Chaos Excluded). I'd be fine with having the 'Imperium' as my enemies.

And yes, there's a good chance they're currently locked up so to speak. Not much known about their exact fate, right? I mean, all I read is that 'hopefully' they surrendered after the duel to the death.

I really wonder how far they'll go with factions in this game though. I mean if they include all of them, that's a lot of different factions. I highly doubt Tyranids and Necrons are playable, but it would still be a lot of them. (They're likely to be just major enemies, I doubt they'd give the player control of a 'mindless' character) But if they do go that far in making factions, that even renegade chapters and such are included, that'd be a very nice job.

Didn't they also say: "We won't include a race if we can't do it justice."? Meaning that if they don't feel like one faction will be fleshed out well enough, it won't?

Who's they? I don't remember Vigil saying that.

Well, there's always the Rogue Trader option for you. You're human, but not Chaos and considered a rogue element by the Imperium (tolerated depending on the star system...).

And what's the opposite of surrendered in that situation? I love me some bolter purging of rogue marines!

And it depends. You could have a Necron, but you'd have to be one of the more advanced models. Tyranids, I'll agree with you on that. Orks maybe, Eldar possibly, Chaos probably. Rogue chapters that you're hoping for isn't likely... too many other choices to go with.

Rogue Trader
http://wh40k.lexican...ki/Rogue_Trader

A Rogue Trader is a combination of freelance explorer, conquistador and merchant. They are Imperial servants, given a ship, a crew, a contingent of Marines or Guardsmen and carte blanche to roam the worlds beyond Imperial control.

In their task of exploring and exploiting uncharted regions of the galaxy, Rogue Traders might come across worlds harbouring long forgotten human civilizations which will be incorporated into the Imperium. Other times they find empty or alien-dominated planets ripe for colonization or exploitation.

Rogue Traders are flamboyant individuals, commonly dressed in the most extravagant finery they can acquire. Charismatic and roguish, they are highly skilled, if underhanded, diplomats.

Many Rogue Traders are highly unstable individuals; some destroy entire worlds for the slightest reason, or include alien warriors and mutants among their entourage. Some are highly pious while others are no more than legitimized pirates. The most infamous Rogue Trader was Jan van Yastobaal, who became little more than a desperado plundering whatever world he came upon.

The most valuable possession of a Rogue Trader family is its Charters, or Warrants of Trade; an ancient legal document which describes the accepted limits of its operations. These charters are hereditary thus creating a Rogue Trader dynasty.

Certain powerful lords of the Adeptus Terra offer charters of trade as a bribe to their rivals. In exchange the rival simply walks away into a life of adventure and, hopefully, great wealth. Some Rogue Trader families have powerful allies inside the Adeptus Terra.

Some of the more ancient ones are dated from the very beginnings of the Imperium, and some were even signed by the Emperor himself. Others were signed by Primarchs or other leaders of the Great Crusade. These charters are very valuable and give its owner great leeway. They are tailor-made and unique. They cannot be re-appealed as according to Imperial law and Imperial religious dogma no one is empowered to overrule these persons.

Having said that, one can assume that a renegade Rogue Trader guilty of heresy or treason will be severely prosecuted by the Inquisition. It is very likely that he is considered to have forsaken the Emperor's trust upon his family and that his punishment will be much more severe.

Letters of Marque are similar documents issued more recently. The Letters of Marque are rather restricted in some aspects and controlled more effectively by Imperial authorities. The more recent ones are not hereditary at all; hopeful heirs must return and reapply for a new charter.

A Charter of Trade or a Letter of Marque may contain peculiar restrictions. This may be of geographical nature (e.g.: restrict the Rogue Trader into a single sector) or something similar.

Some Rogue Traders are relatively poor, possessing a single ancient and dilapidated ship. Others are incredibly wealthy and powerful and have whole fleets and entire private armies at their disposal. Certain favored individuals may even call upon detachments of Space Marines having entered pacts with individual Chapters. Some Rogue Traders operate as mercenaries, renting the service of their ship(s).

Depending upon the families wealth, power, and connections it can be considered an aristocratic family.

Although I do like exploration a lot. I'd rather still be a scientist of sorts, instead of a rogue-ey person.
Just hope there will be interesting classes in this.

New Warhammer40K MMO Details

Playable factions:

Imperium
Eldar
Orcs
Chaos

More races will be revealed later this year(June).

Features:

  • Focus both on Melee and Long range Combat
  • Covering system
  • 29 Zones (21 claimable, 8 invadeable)
  • Open-World
  • PvP around resource gathering and taking strategic points
  • Center zone features a conquerable stronghold
  • No playable Tanks or other Warmachines at release but implemented possibility for expansion
  • Tyranids as full fighting PvE-Faction

  • Lore (being discussed concerning certain faction-plots at the moment but here are the things we determined with Games Workshop so far):
  • Game takes place in the southern border-sectors of Segmentum Tempestus
  • Factions fight over a destroyed imperial forge world called Tarelis and its hive-city Cerberus X (newly added to the lore!)
  • The story of the game will NOT take place in a parallel universe! Just like the Planet Kronus (made by our colleagues at Relic) Tarelis will be part of the lore!
  • Tyranids will be main-antagonists
    • Unfortunately Vigil Games was not allowed to use Relic's Gorgutz ‘Ead ‘Unter as Ork Warlord as he will make a final appearance in the second Dawn of War 2 expansion.

Cool.
Now I want to know more about the races and more importantly if there will be classes, which and the possible specialization in them. Something that is just a must for me in RPGs is good class/specialization system...

Also, does this game have a proper name yet? I mean.. "Warhammer 40.000 Online" wound be a little... well... lame?

EDIT:
Oh and... What I am wondering... They probably have some sort of allegiances planned I guess? Like Eldar helping the Imperium? Orks helping Chaos? I don't know, but... Dividing the community over all the factions could lead to some serious decline in some parts.

Like imagine if World of Warcraft would have had each race separately;
Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, Draenei, Blood Elves, Forsaken and so on... instead of just "Horde" and "Alliance". Would've really divided the players on one server.

Yes, because that totally didn't ruin Warhammer: Age of Reckoning, alliances that made no $@$!*(( sense.
