New Website Release Imminent! Forum Upgrades, New CMS, And More

This may come as a pleasant surprise to some, but we are actually moving forward with our new site! The first phase is a "soft launch", where we release the main site with the forums following a couple of days later, without a major announcement. This phase will take place in the next day or so!
You will see the new website in place at petroglyphgames.com. We are calling this a soft launch because we giving our current community a sneak peek before we officially announce the site to the wider game community. If all goes well, next week we'll send out a press release and contest to celebrate!
We are posting this now to give you a heads-up that the forums will be locked upon the new site being transferred. This is required to give us time to make final forum DB changes on the new domain. The new forums will still be using IPB, though we are upgrading to IPB 3.x and making a few tweaks. Don't worry about your accounts and posts, as those are not being removed. Any latent forum style issues you come across when the forums are brought back online will be dealt with at that time.
I'm excited to be bringing this new site to you, as it has been a long time coming. I know you've been hearing about it for the past several months. What's great about the new site, is not only will the IPB 3.x forums provide more community tools, but the site itself will provide a ton of new capabilities for you in sharing of mods, screenshots, news, and much more.
When you see the new site and forums, share with us your thoughts. You may well find misc. bugs and issues that have been overlooked during our own testing. Let us know about them! Also keep in mind that when the forums are enabled, we'll be continuing to tweak the style as your input comes in.
Once the forums are locked after the new site goes live, we'll be posting this as a news post on the new site, giving you further directions to temporary forums at sites like petrolution.net. If you have any questions during this transition period, please feel free to e-mail me at community@petroglyphgames.com.
We hope you like the new site!

Why not just leave these boards up until the new stuff is completely up and ready for us to move into? I don't think it makes much sense to prematurely shut down this place if the new place isn't up and we have to make do with temporary places...

All accounts and posts will be transfered. That's part of the reason why the forums need to be temporarily shut down, so you people don't post while we're copying stuff
And also so we can properly test if everything works, of course.

Can you give us an idea of how long the move will take?

The main site won't take more than a couple of hours, if all goes well. That's when the forums will be disabled. Forums on the new site will kind of be visible, but only with a "down for maintenance" message in place of the actual forums. We're hoping for no more than 2 days for that transition.
