It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?

From http://www.shutdownday.org

I will participate and am wondering if any of you will.

That's easy. I've been grounded off the computer before.

Even camping I bring my laptop to watch movies and check e-mail. My job and livelihood simply revolve around the computer. I've tried it. I don't think I could do it.

Although if I decided to re-read Zahn's books you could probably coax me away for a week, so maybe I could.

You'll take my computer from my cold dead hands.

This could be nice though. Higher download speeds, less forum trolls, no more full servers..

I at least go online to check sports scores and news and some forums every day as part of my normal routine - even if I work 12+ hours I still hop on to catch up on things, so while I would not be comfortable with missing a day, it certainly would not be too much of a hardship I suppose.

A day would be easy, but make it a week or so and then there would start to be some problems.

If I was in Europe I could survive without a computer. North America is just boring and the same old crap each day. Europe is still natural while North America is all cloned food, rat poisoned pet food and more reliant on technology then Europe. Well when I was in Europe in 2003 anyways.

Can I survive without a computer in North America? I'd be one of the first to die.
Europe? I'd live for a few weeks longer and adapt quickly.

I've successfully survived shutdown day without putting my pc on or going close to a PC, it wasn't too hard because I slept most of the day and watched TV the rest of the day :p But anyway I'm happy I can use my PC again now :p
Next week I am in Prague, a whole week without my PC but obviously there are more interesting things to do that moment :p

pffft easy. I only play games on weekends and I use the internet only a few times during weekdays. Heck I never even played games on the computer until I was like 10 years old. I could go for a long time without my computer. But I'd be a little bored. But now that winter is finally over I spend more time outside.

Since a console doesn't count as a PC, you could have still played that. Yay for loopholes!

every summer we go camping/road-tripping for almost the whole summer, and I don't have a laptop, so I've gone up to about 3 months without one before.

That's because you have so much else to do that you don't really miss your PC, but, like Shutdown Day, you are normally at home, and the PC is (at least in my life) a part of our daily lives, so that makes it more difficult to put it aside.
