RPG and RTS are my top 2 for sure, though I haven't played much RPG in a bit...
RTS are what keep me busy these days (though I did play one of the Fire Emblem games on GBA and it was just awesome).

RTS and RPG are definitely my favorite too.
Good story always is a bonus.

Aww man...i have to choose only one? Well, First Person Shooters i have grown up with (namely Unreal Tournament). But I also love strategy games (STRATEGY...not endless rushing with big bad unit 'strategy'). So i'd have FPS and RTS as my fave genres. Long have i dreamed of a game that combined the two...

Of course I chose Strategy, otherwise I wouldn't be active on this board
But I also enjoy a good Simulation from time to time (like as mentioned SimCity but also Anno 1701, Zoo Tycoon, etc.)
Recently I bought a Logitech G25 and I'm a bit in car racing too (Test Drive Unlimited) and of course a good FPS is always nice to play.

I can't choose between FPS and RTS. I play them equally. Well, most of the time.

RTS (C&C)/FPS (Halo 2)/SIM (Silent Hunter 3)
Normally I prefer RTTs over RTSs but you know it depends. And when I mean SIM I mean Simulators like flight/naval simulators.
Dude maybe you could add RTTs, Simulators, MMORPGs to your list.

While I love FPS games and RPG games, my bread and butter has always been Strategy

I had to go with FPS, a few years back it might have been RTS but the actually strategy has been canned in most RTS games so I prefere a game that sticks to what it is... FPS are always FPS games... they don't change the concept of it.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

RTS - With SW Empire at War(foc), Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, and now C&C 3 all getting playing time from me right now. Too many good games and not enough hours in the day!

I can't choose one. My favorite depends on my mood. When I am in a bad mood, no genre is better then FPS, while in other more happy moods, strategy games is better becouse then I get a more focused mind
Thank you Petroglyph for being here in the dark ages of RTS gaming! May your bright torch lead the way for other developers led astray. You make me happy as long as you stay alive, and I will dedicate my life to thee to make this dream come true!

Same with me, except I play RTS/RTT games when I'm in a more megalomaniacal mood

I like FPS much too but Strategy games are better than shooting all the time. Because you must think of what you will do next time. My favorite FPS is FarCry, cause the Graphic is from German Programmers and it looks so great. The next game of Crytek (EA has bought them up, ######) is Crysis did you hear of that? You must see the engine it looks like Reality! I know that germany has a bad reputation but in gaming programming we are in the top of the world. That makes me smile.

I don't care as much for FPS's because IMO once you have played one of the main ones...you've played them all pretty much. I do currently play Battefront 2 but it has different elements than a basic FPS and I think that is one reason I like it (piloting starfighters and ground vehicles is a lot of fun). However there is a game coming out called Enemy Territory: Quake Wars that looks completely phenominal! I am actually excited about this one...

actually zak theres enemy territory for wolfenstein... so it's been done it's just now being done with a new engine and game series... go get the enemy territory one for that (I think it's a free download) and yuo can get an idea of what it would be like-ish... I'm sure tehre are a few new things...
most fps games do seem the same but each somehow isn't. Take battlefield for instance all about tactical decisions and teamwork, and renegade is the same but with a totally different element... the only thing that is usually the same is the typical and basic death matchesque games...

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Gray, it's only similar in name alone...in fact, after I showed some Q:ET movies to my friends who were excited by the name alone, they were like "What the? No thanks!"
