Man, you guys brought up a priceless childhood memory - the first "real" computer game I ever played/watched was Tiberian Sun, at a friend's house.
Tiberian Sun? I laugh! Hah!
My first real game was Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn) on DOS, baby. Jaw-dropping Full Motion Video and incredible graphics.
Well, at the time

The FMVs were a huge part in my liking it. Even today I prefer the original C&C's movies to the other C&C's movies, content-wise. For some reason the movies after TD and RA never quite lived up to them. It seemed to me like the actors overacted too much. (McNeal: "Let's kick some ass?") Like, wtf? This is NOT a hollywood movie damnit! Don't ever say those stupid catch-phrase one-liners in my presence again!
At least Kane didn't say "I'll be back" in a thick german accent before he 'died' in a typical supervillain-disconnected-from-reality kind of way

This is what I liked about the original, and I hope will happen in P-02, if it has FMV (please please please

):
It seemed real. People (Seth) were shot without warning and without "you're going to die, any last words?" speeches.
Gen. Sheppard really looked tired at the end of the GDI campaign, as if he hadn't slept in nights.
It seemed believable, it seemed like you were there. Like the two of you went through this together. And the missions really made you believe like there was something bigger going on.
Red Alert's movies were of the same quality as TD's. Content-wise that is.
Tiberian Sun messed it up by disconnecting you from the movie and providing an on-screen representation of you (McNeal and Slavik, resp.). Combined with the overall dialog it looked more like a cinema movie (where's my popcorn?) than a briefing.
Firestorm fixed it somewhat by having the actors address you again. Too bad I think Slavik can't act, sort of messing up the Nod campaign movies

I have mixed feelings about RA2's movies. At least they address you, but overall it seemed too... unreal. They made them funnier and I'm not entirely sure that was such a good thing to do. Not as far as I'm concerned. But then again, RA2 as a whole was very cartoony, so in that regard the movies and gameplay matched.
And Renegade and Generals had CG, so I'm not even going to touch that.
Anyway, to get back on topic: I have the First Decade, and it's not a bad deal. It's got some bonus DVD as well, which is mostly people liking C&C talking about what's great about C&C, so it's at least fun to watch once
