Happy St. Patrick's Day Petroglyph community! To celebrate what was an incredibly successful GDC for us, we're adding to our March '10 Community Newsletter a whole lotta GDC photos.

Mytheon's Epic Bosses Revealed

AUSTIN, TEXAS - (MARCH 17, 2010) -- True Games Interactive, an international multi-player online game developer and publisher, along with award-winning developer, Petroglyph, today revealed details of several of the mythological bosses players will encounter in their highly-anticipated online, multiplayer action/RPG with strategic game play, Mytheon, due this Spring www.MytheonGame.com.

In addition to many other colossal gods, players can expect to see the goddess of the harvest and seasons: Persephone, daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Persephone is also the Queen of the Underworld alongside Hades, forever doomed to preside over the realm of the dead. Players will also be introduced to the venerable sorceress, Circe.

"Based on real-world mythologies, we wanted players of Mytheon to experience not only the thrilling gameplay, but we also wanted that gameplay to occur within a recognizable historical context," said Peter Cesario, Director of New Business and Product Development at True Games Interactive. "With that in mind, players will find it thrilling to battle such epic deities as Persephone, Hades and the lesser-known but not to be underestimated, Circe."

About Hades

When the Olympians were freed from their father's belly, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades agreed to draw lots. The eldest, Hades was the unfortunate brother who drew the shortest straw, condemning him to rule over the realm of the dead. While Hades was considered an iron-fisted ruler, he was thought of as a fair one--only those who crossed him directly were subject to his wrath. When the war with the gods began, Hades first chose the side of neutrality only to ultimately side with his siblings.

About Persephone

The daughter of Demeter, Persephone is the goddess of the harvest and the seasons. While she represents purity, youth, and vitality, Persephone's beauty so enchanted Hades that he kidnapped her forcing Demeter, Persephone's mother, to render the earth fallow and cold. Compelled to intervene,

the other gods dispatched Hermes to the Underworld to recover Persephone. Forced to spend three months out of every year in the Underworld with Hades, Persephone came to be known as the Queen of the Underworld. As the legend holds, if one was alive and ate or drink while in the underworld they become a part of the underworld and could not leave. Hades tricked Persephone into eating three pomegranate seeds and therefore she was condemned to spend three months out of every year in the Underworld. This time in mythology became known as the season of Winter. As time went on, Persephone was seduced by Hades and eventually abandoned her innocence. Her warmth and compassion having devolved into coldness and greed when the war with the gods began, Persephone vowed to battle those who would attempt to destroy the world and life she had come to love.

About Circe

A powerful sorceress, Circe is widely known for her unrivaled command of the art of alchemy. Indeed, it was by Circe's hand that Odysseus and his crew were delayed on her isle of Aeaea for an entire year at the start of the hero's great journey. With but a sip of her potion, Odysseus' men were transformed into swine, but the great hero was clever and did not fall under the sorceress' spell so easily. Impressed, Circe offered hospitality to Odysseus and his men. When Odysseus eventually left her company, Circe continued her pursuit of power and when she was approached by the gods, the sorceress couldn't refuse. Circe has created Odysseus' Passage--a trial of sorts that pits would-be heroes against the very same dangers braved by the hero during his epic journey.

"What sets the combat apart from many traditional MMOs is the concept of the power stones, which brings a certain RTS element to the game. Each class has up to 40 unique stones that they can have in their deck, and six are available at any one time. In the beginning, players start with a smaller deck of stones, but they can find others through questing or looting monsters. Some stones are common, while others are harder to find. When used, the stones can give the players special buffs or allies that will aid in fights."

Conqueror League #1 - Universe at War

ConquerCup has just completed its second event for Universe at War! ConquerCup has already hosted numerous Red alert 3, Command & Conquer 3, and Dawn Of War II tournaments.

Vodtoast from the Petroglyph forums is coordinating with ConquerCup to launch the first UaW Conqueror League. This event will run over the course of a week, letting players choose when to play their games.

Sign ups have started and will close at March 21 22:00 CET, 4 PM EST, 21 GMT, when CL#1 starts. By the time it's over, you must have finished your games.

Keep checking back, as more tournaments will be hosted multiple times by the community each month. The tournaments are free to participate in. Go to www.uaw.conquercup.com if you're interested, then check back at Petroglyph's UaW forums for updated discussions.

The Mythologies and Bosses of Mytheon Revealed

AUSTIN, Texas - (March 8, 2010) -- True Games Interactive, an international multi-player online game developer and publisher, along with award-winning developer, Petroglyph, released details about the unique storyline and challenges in Mytheon, the highly-anticipated online, multiplayer action/RPG with strategic game play due this Spring ( www.MytheonGame.com).

The ancient Greek mythology and expansive folklore of Mytheon transports players to a time where heroes do battle with legendary monsters and gods. Chief among the grand and colossal gods in the ancient world is the mighty Poseidon, god of the seas and earthquakes, and the creator of horses, including the famed Pegasus. One of the early environments in Mytheon is The Shattered Isle, a mystical island created by Poseidon to house his family and loyal servants. This island represents the dichotomy of the seas; beautiful and tranquil on one side, and dark and treacherous on the other.

Poseidon was the first and only god to attempt an outright assault on the fabled city of Argos. Had it not been for the protection of the Golden Fleece, the city would have fallen. He is encountered on the Shattered Isle where he is amassing an army to destroy the city of Argos. Poseidon’s wrath is born out of arrogant jealousy over mankind’s newfound favor with the Fates. For millennia, he has blessed mankind with such gifts as his beloved horses and the secrets of sea-faring.

“Experiencing the myths and legends we grew up with are what make Mytheon such a unique online experience and the giant gods in the game are an amazing challenge, said Peter Cesario, director of new business and product development at True Games Interactive. “For years video games have been trying to capture the essence of fighting something so powerful, so huge that it is god-like; Mytheon is the real thing.”

Challenging a god-sized boss is one of the many thrilling encounters Mytheon players will face. And none is more epic than battling Poseidon, the master of earth and water who uses these primal elements to decimate entire legions of men. It is ill-advised to rely on summoned structures in this epic fight, for Poseidon’s mastery of the earth will ensure their destruction. At his command are the various creatures of the ocean, including a giant man-eating sea monster called the King Sentinel. Guarding Poseidon’s temple is the majestic Pegasus—in order for Poseidon to be challenged, Pegasus must first be defeated, proving the Stonecaster’s worthiness to face the mighty deity himself.

“Using mythologies from the various civilizations throughout our history as the basis of the story of Mytheon has given us a wealth of material to pull from,” said Chris Rubyor, lead designer of Mytheon at Petroglyph. “We wanted the player to feel instantly familiar with the monsters and gods he or she will be fighting, but still feel a sense of awe and wonder at the encounters. We look forward to expanding on the Greek mythology that greets players in Mytheon to even more incredible encounters from Egypt, Asia and more as we continue to expand the game.”

"Though it has a satisfying level of complexity, Mytheon actually sounds more complicated than it is, and it's fairly easy to learn the ins and outs of the game as you make your way through the starting tutorial instance. The low impact nature of the starting area means you can spam your powers for the first few levels just to get a feel for what you like. After that, you'll need to start thinking more tactically and using your powers in combination with each other. Quests are easy to spot and load up automatically when you enter a new zone. And there's no more tedious running back to the quest giver to claim your rewards. When you complete a quest in Mytheon, you get the rewards right away wherever you happen to be."

UaW ConquerCup Tournament This Weekend!

ConquerCup, which has already hosted numerous Red alert 3, Command & Conquer 3, and Dawn Of War II tournaments, will be launching its first Universe at War cup the 6th of March (this coming weekend!).

Ulrich over at Geekdo.com reviewed Panzer General: Allied Assault the board game. This is what he had to say:

"If you like WWII games, Card Management games and games with chess-like tactics, don´t walk, run to buy this one. If you like two of the three above, you should also probably get PG. I was very impressed by the way how this game rewards sound thinking and precise analysis, and by how small the luck factor really is. Unlike many other CMGs, you do not at all feel you are at the mercy of the card draw."

Introduction:

Blitzkrieg is German for “Lightning War.” It’s an all out attack using land and air units to push forward in a surprise attack. Armor led the way, and important objectives were surrounded and the advance continued while rear units were used to take over the objectives. The tactic was used successfully in Spain and became a standard German battle plan where possible.

Players Can Now Be Among The First To Get Their Hands On The Highly Anticipated Online Multiplayer Action/RPG With Srategic Game Play at www.MytheonGame.com

AUSTIN, Texas - (February 25, 2010) - True Games Interactive, an international multi-player online game developer and publisher, along with award-winning developer, Petroglyph, have launched a closed beta for their highly anticipated online, multiplayer action/RPG with strategic game play . Until now only a limited number of fans had been allowed into the game but now the companies have begun distributing closed beta keys and are inviting Mytheon fans to join in on the closed beta test.

"We know that our Mytheon fans have been dying to get their hands on the game, but we have hand-picked those who had access to this point" said Peter Cesario, director of product development and new business at True Games. "Development is an ongoing process and we now feel that the game is at a point where we are ready to really have the community that has been growing and building, come in and play-test the early game as we progress towards open beta and the official launch. We are very happy to get some early feedback that will give us an opportunity to make even more improvements."

Players can join the closed beta by going to www.MytheonGame.com and clicking on the "Sign up to play" button to obtain a beta key. All beta keys will be delivered via email a short time after registration.

Players who join the closed beta will find an experience like no other.

All beta test players will experience the excitement of classical mythology come to life when battling a giant Cyclops or challenging the god Hephaestus to control their fate. During the closed beta test period, players will have several opportunities to play alongside the developers and give direct feedback. There will also be several contests communicated through the game forums and patch client at various times.
