Posted Feb 08, 2010 in Board Games News

Not only is Panzer General: Allied Assault an Xbox Live Arcade and board game, it holds a bit of history too. On a regular basis, we will feature two cards and a tile from the board game version in a contest to win a signed copy of each!

All you have to do is respond in the official game forums or Twitter @petroglyphgames the name of the game (Panzer General: Allied Assault) and one of the items here. Those randomly selected each week will receive a signed copy of their selection!

Our second week brings us the Fallschirmjaeger (German) and Army Rangers (American) cards, as well as the 'Hills' tile:

FALLSCHIRMJAEGER

Fallschirmjaeger are German paratroopers. Fallschirmjäger of Germany in World War II were the first to be committed in large-scale airborne operations. They came to be known as the "Green Devils" by the Allied forces they fought against. During the entirety of World War II, the Fallschirmjäger commander was Kurt Student.

Fallschirmjäger participated in many of the famous battles of World War II and in many theatres. As elite troops they were frequently deployed at the vanguard of attacks and as the bulwark of a defence. They would see action in the Norway and Denmark campaign and in Belgium, Holland and France in 1940. Major actions in the Balkans Campaign, Crete, Italy, and on both the Eastern Front and later the Western Front would follow.

ARMY RANGERS

Army Rangers are an elite American Special Operations Force capable of conducting direct operations.

In May 1942, during World War II, the 1st Ranger Battalion was sanctioned, recruited, and began training in Scotland under the British Commandos; 80 percent of the original rangers came from the 34th Infantry Division. Together with the ensuing 3rd and 4th Ranger Battalions they fought in North Africa and Italy commanded by William O. Darby until the Battle of Cisterna (January 29, 1944) when most of the Rangers of the 1st and 3rd Battalions were captured. The remaining Rangers were absorbed into the Canadian-American First Special Service Force under Brigadier General Robert T. Frederick. They were then instrumental in operations in and around the Anzio beachhead.

Game Fact: Both of these units are Infantry and thus have similar capabilities. They also can benefit direct from the Hills terrain bonuses, as they are not a hard-target.

HILLS TILE

Hills provide both excellent offense and defense.

Game Fact: Target Terrain Bonus = +3 Prestige Award = 1. Firing units from a hill receive a +2 firing bonus.
