Mytheon Q&AMytheonSector asks about Mytheon
MytheonSector: How long is the closed beta going to last before being opened to everyone? Will our accounts and characters transfer into the released product?
Petroglyph: We're quickly ramping up in participants throughout closed beta phase. We will enter open beta when we've worked out all the little kinks and issues that that the testers help us identify in this phase.
Each phase of the beta has potential for a necessary character wipe, and this includes the planned wipe before the game goes live. While it hasn't been determined yet, accounts themselves may be transferred.
MytheonSector: What do you see as the fundamental strengths of Mytheon over other Free-to-Play and Mythology-based Action and RPG games?
Petroglyph: Mytheon starts off having a strong Action RPG flavor that players will find familiar from games such as Diablo and Titan's Quest. It gets really interesting when you experience the strategy layer that using stones during combat adds to the game.
MytheonSector: As employees of Petroglyph, you've obviously had exposure to Mytheon from the earliest stage. Why did you choose on only three character classes? Can you share the ideas or concepts behind any of the classes that may have been cut from the game?
Petroglyph: Mytheon classes do not have the same limitations as classes from other RPG-style games. With abilities based on power stone collection, each character class has the potential to perform in wildly different ways depending on how the player chooses to customize his battle set.
Because of this, we wanted to make sure that the classes we did ship with were unique in their play style even with this variable. We feel that the Warcaster, Elementalist and Eidolon have play styles that set them apart from each other, and that trying to add new classes at this stage could water down their value.
Of course the future is not written, and adding new classes with expansion content is always a possibility.
MytheonSector: Late last year we were shown images of three different areas in Mytheon. Can you share details of other interesting locations with us?
For example, will your character reach mythical locations such as Mount Olympus or the isles of Circe? Or visit ancient cities such as Babylonia, Troy, Sparta, Alexandria, Knossos (the Labyrinth of the Minotaur) and Memphis?
Petroglyph: Mount Olympus is certainly going to be available, but it will require you to come fully prepared to take on the Greek Pantheon on their home territory - Zeus won't be happy with all the destruction you caused to the god's cause on your way there.
Of course, no tour of Greek Mythology would be complete without a trip to the Underworld, so there are a few locations available in Hades' domain, but first you will have to fight your way past Cerberus. Odysseus' Passage will allow you to fight several creatures present in the Odyssey including Polyphemus, Circe and Calypso.
MytheonSector: Will we see any hero characters from Mythology, such as Achilles or Heracles/Hercules, in the fight to free humanity from the tyranny of the gods? What about witnessing any conflicts between different gods and demi-gods?
Petroglyph: Our story is assuming that all of the previous heroes are gone, and that the players are taking up where they left off. You will see the signs of their passing - a trip through Odysseus' Passage, the statue of Jason in Argos, finding the Medusa's Head shield dropped by Perseus, etc. Those heroes set the path, now it is time for new heroes to rise and take up the cause.
MytheonSector: How heavily will actual mythology alter the personalities, powers and mission-types surrounding the various gods and mythical creatures?
Petroglyph: We've tried to match the abilities and powers of the monsters and gods to what would be familiar to players. For example, Zeus throws lightning bolts, Hephaestus wields the powers of the forge, and Medusa turns people to stone. Most of the quests and lore text will be faithful to the original material, but we are building on that material, and moving it forward.
Sure, Perseus killed Medusa, but what happened after that? What choices do the gods make when the Fates tell them that their time is at an end? Which gods accept this fate, and which will fight against their oblivion?

Phoenix Rising Mod
Early in January the PR team have announced their heroes for the Alliance such as Bigs and Wedge and even highlighted just before the new year the list for the Empires heroes.
One of the latest updates for the PR mod was all about imperial invasion and how to defend a planet from one. It's a tricky concept for any mod that wants to strike a balance between attack and defence, here the PR team outlines how they are going to do this:

Rise of the Mandalorians Mod
This is a new mod on Petrolution but not new in the modding community and still has something great to offer, it looks extremely promising and is set at a great time in Star Wars history, the mod promises to be great with a great modder like the_Farseer working on it.
He has posted a changelog on the mod of which he has started work on, you can view and comment on it here. You can view download links for the v3 of the mod and help him gather data and test for him to help make this mod better. Visit the forums here.
Sci-Fi at War Mod
A great mod that always has plentiful updates. The latest update consists of new ships to make use of in the mod but they need some help suggesting specific functions for the ships.

Eras of the Mercenaries Mod
Lots of updates from Mobius in the last month ranging from gameplay development to the GUI. With new menu's and loading screens this mod seems to polish off the old UI and create a new one suited to the mod.

Warhammer 40,000 Universal War Mod
The Warhammer 40k mod is finding its feet after a great development stage, you can visit their forums over at Petrolution and respond to their threads to what you want to see and get involved in the mod to help them and make the mod a much more universal figure. Leanden and his team have put so much effort in this mod, we ask the community to take a look and support the mod giving it all the encouragement and download is definitely deserves.
